Good luck!

Its not hard, albeit not as easy as the fronts..Just dont rush it and some people even do one side at a time so u can use the other side as reference.

I'd recommend having a piston tool for those rear calipers, especially the one that shat itself, might be a pain without it.

hardest thing for me has been battling rust. pb blaster and a hammer on the ratchet ended up taking care of most of it..

all started a few weeks ago when the brake light came on and i was low on fluid. topped off, drove around like normal for a while (i have a truck for work 90% of the time so the max only sees use on weekends typically). after finishing up an oil change one day i noticed some fluid leaking from the right rear. took off the tire to see brake fluid leaking all over the rear caliper- great i thought- heres a project from another day. parked the car and all the fluid leaked out over the next few days. got some parts ready, watched some youtube, and here's what i worked out

the offending brake assembly:

side by side comparison, old vs new (something is obviously wrong with the seals around the piston):

Size: 53.5 KB

pads were getting pretty worn also

Size: 78.9 KB

now the new stuff, looks pretty:

replaced rotors and pads on the rear left too, BUT i can't get the caliper piston thing to go back in (think its rust and age giving me problems). rented the tool from autozone but i keep bending the handle trying to get the thing to move. im at the point where i might just buy a new caliper for $40 for that one too, have the piece of mind of having a new (reman) part installed and not have to pay $60 for breaking the rented tool.

I installed my saggy trunk cover fix today finally after 2? months it sitting here. Works exactly as imagined and promised! Cleaned up the trunk a bit.

Spent about 20 mins trying to program the 2 keyless remotes..oem nissan. Fresh batteries in both; i even bought new rubber inserts to take care of the faded lettering...BUT i cant program them successfully. Got It to partially? program in one remote control; it was only locking..nothing else. After my alarm blared a few times, i gave up for now :/

Timing has to be EXACT. A lot more precise than the ecu reset procedure. I had to concentrate on counting the 1st time I did it. Use a stopwatch if you have to, but learning the correct speed to count "one one thousand, two one thousand" works almost every time when you're used to it. Make sure the windows are up and everything off (maybe a placebo but seems to work for me lol).

I can get it into the programming mode everytime...the key insert procedure. The hazards blink...the next step is where i have only succeeded only once. you are supposed to put the key in acc and then depress one (any) button on the remote and hazards should flash...
for me they never do. and one time they did only the lock button seemed to work.
I had read about all windows being up as well. I v made sure of this and my sunroof is closed as well.

^ Lots of brake jobs going on, nice.

Cornholio, I had the same issue with my rears...I ripped that crap out of there, both pistons were shot pretty good and would not go back much, I didnt even pull the pads outta there.

If yours is seizing up, I'd say get new one...replacement calipers arent expensive if you return the old cores. And it will make a big difference..

ended up buying a new one and put it on today. so far it seems to be working. ebrake even works again, i think my old pads were just too worn to grab.

also took apart the center console and did a good thorough cleaning. looks much better even if i'm the only one who will notice

Installed my radio last night. This was to easy and to think I was about to pay some yahoo $200 for a radio and installation when I did it for free. speakers at house and will be putting those in when I get home. I don't want to sound like a commercial but maxima.org has been saving me a crap load of money with there information on this site.

Datsun Z calipers will work...But why would u want to use them?

The fronts on those cars are small, bout the size of the Maxima's rear setup.

Datsun guys upgrade to Maxima brakes, not the other way around.

I'm pleasantly happy to inform every1 i installed some sort of catch can by all my account the pinging problem I've always had and been living with all this years is 90% gone.

who loves their vq ,me thats who...lol

I went on a test drive this morning and it was gone ,so i was like can't be it's just like any other cool early morning .

Therefore i just waited for my drive to work ,it would get hotter and engine should be as hot as any other day, it's still not there, while i truck shift the od button and engine brake with my e-brake down my lane on the frwy.

At this point I'm like it's there you just can't hear it ,but no.

So i thinks to myself last change test... on my exit there's a yield right turn that climbs slightly uphill and the max always has channeld in it's inner mack truck and screamed like a turbodiesel there then bingo ,i heard it ever so slight but still there 10%

Sorry for the thread jack but I'll make a thread when i have something constructive to post.

It looks like it belongs there ,even the airbox made space
I found a spark plug full of oil so i peeked in there with a fancy camera and saw caked up residue on the piston head so im betting all 6 cyl not too different in that regard so i figured buying the can will only prolong the inevitable.

Is that the Injen?
If it is it's known as a HAI.

It's basically that design so either way the brand dont matter... thats a Injen intake even if the brand name says different.

^^@AT978...What they are saying here is...whether its an injen branded or a knock off that design its basically a HAI...
HAI=Hot Air intake..
A nomer given to the injen design due to where it places the filter....directly in front of the radiator sucking in hot air..
luckily tho, with some minor tweaking..you can convert it into a cai with it being routed into the fender...
