You can jam a big crowbar into the flywheel and use a breaker bar on the bolt. Two people job, but it works.

Don't know if you did but I'd say the best way is yank the fans , radiator, and the crossmember. It makes it pretty easy once that stuffs out of your way. Probably could leave rad but fans help.

Just an fyi. This job SUCKS doing on jack stands expecially on a car this old. It was a direct fit so I didn't have to grind anything off lIke I have read. The rear 02 sensor doesn't fit. Have to relocate it. That's all I have left to do to finish the headers

I have off on Thursday so I am hoping to do my motor mounts and lightweight crank pully.

I'd skip the crank pulley. I've read some not so good things about them. Not to mention no gains. Also possibility of throwing the balance out of the motor.

I thought the maxima was internally ballanced? Will have to check into that. Thank you for the heads up!

It just so happens last night another org member and I were texting about the same exact thing so I did a quick search and found a lot of negative on it.

It's a myth just like engines need back-pressure. Too many ****** that own(ed) old engines. VQs are internally balanced very well.

Our crank pulley is not a harmonic balancer or crank vibration dampener. End of story.

If anything, the stock pulley causes more bearing wear b/c it's less balanced than a precision made piece of billet aluminum (not to mention heavy as **** throwing it's mass around).
Also, stock pulley goes bad b/c the idiots still made it a two piece with a layer of rubber in the middle (for belt noises? nissan is so dumb). So, have fun with increased bearing wear when it starts to wobble...even when you don't notice it.

And no gains is a lie! Stock pulley weighs 12 lbs. UDP is almost 1, iirc. That translates into an 8 whp gain with a little help from 20% underdrive.

The ONLY issue that you can face is the crank seal wearing and wearing a groove in the pulley if it doesn't have a steel sleeve. But this takes quite a lot of miles before it's even going to leak. edit: for some reason I thought the UR pulleys didn't have the sleeve, they do (found one in the garage).

I'm sure everyone would appreciate it FUD isn't spread around like facts.

I have FOUR UDPs on my cars. One is on the VG and it's not balanced as well as the VQ, yet, in the history of 300ZXs there's never been a problem from it. Imagine that.

I have been searching and everything I read for the vq motor is that the lightweight crank pully won't hurt a thing

Here you go from a well know well respected org member from a time back when there were a lot more on here. Not one guy trying to shove his point across to everyone. I can bring you a lot more from this very org that say the same thing. So don't dare say that I'm spreading false info intentionally I resent it. This is all info that I learned on this site by reading. You have a very annoying habit of jumping on people and acting like a complete know it all. It's extremely annoying. I may be wrong I'm just putting info out there that I read on this site. If you want more quotes I'll provide them. But your tough guy over the top routine is very lame you ought to tone it down a couple notches.

I'm sorry, how does installing a lighter, more balanced pulley, somehow change the physics of how it operates in a negative way?

Engines need to be very balanced when making big power/high RPMs, yes... and your point is? The UDP is better balanced than a STAMPED HUNK OF STEEL with a few holes drilled in it (sometimes no holes, must be "good enough" then).
The VQ is already internally balanced from the factory. The crank pulley is NOT AN ENGINE DAMPER OR HARMONIC BALANCER which is why nealoc's point isn't applicable (I swear I said this before). And top it off, the stock pulley fails and becomes more and more imbalanced with age until it splits in two.

I do try to be nice (I'm not nice, so there ya go), but this kind of crap gets really old.

You might as well never think about a lightweight flywheel or different clutch. By this logic, then those will cause balancing issues and ruin the motor. Another huge, heavy ,mass-produced, piece of steel is bolted on the other end of the engine...I'm sure it's perfectly balanced and superior to a light weight flywheel...

Also, take a look at other imports. Many come with a solid pulley from the factory, because they are internally balanced as well.

Got the shifter cable mount replaced today. Painted the front calipers again ( dropped the calipers when I was doing the wheel bearings and it chipped some of the paint off)

Replacing the fill hose and high pressure hose for the power steering tomorrow and I think I will put the rz crank pully on and new belts

Put on new belts and the lightweight crank pulley. Replaced the power steering hoses and replaced the oil cooler line.
The lightweight pulley is 4 pounds lighter

Also found out I need a new cv shaft on the passenger side. 2 of the 3 mounting bolts are gone and where they thead in is broken. Don't know how that would happen????

The stillen front lip is supposed to be finished being painted on Monday. Also have a guy the said he could weld the new o2 bung in. Hope to have that next weekend.
