2nd to 3rd gear slip (over rev)

Could a bad speed sensor cause the transmission to slip when shifting into 3rd? (it goes into neutral for a second then shifts)

New fluid, new filter, had a flush.

It slips 1 out of 10 times.

If you are not low on oil, it could be the shift solenoid. What year is the car?

Transgo kit is a shift kit?

Valve body is in the transmission?

What fix will fix it and ensure longevity?

Thank you

Upgrade the valve body of your transmission with an aftermarket.

Automatics of your year are known to have this problem.

Missed you planecrash.

Please post a link to a good Transgo kit. How much labor to install?

Will just a valve body fix it?
I like to rev and push the car.

An aftermarket transmission cooler is a very good idea for longevity and if you're hard on your car.

You don't need to upgrade or fix anything except for the VB.

The Transmission guy says a shift kit will only raise pressure and the transmission will break again because the clutch burns every time it slips. Is this true? Will a shift kit fix it permanently or temporarily?

Sorry, I'm not sure.
Someone else will need to chime in on approximate cost on that.

Transmission guy must not know crap about Maximas.

Try another shop where they shut up and do what you tell them to.

Just dropped the car off at a friends shop. They are going to see if a shift kit is something they can do (and diagnosis for free).

Just bought this: TRG-RE4F04B-HD2
(http://www.summitracing.com/parts/trg-re4f04b-hd2)

How bad is 1st to 2nd shift at redline? I already need a new transmission mount and engine mount!

Hopefully the shop says they can install it!!

Thank you everyone for your help! Miss this place. My car has been broken and un drive-able for 2 years now.

Save yourself some money and fix your own mounts if it looks like something you can do.

Has anyone else done the shift kit and had success with eliminating the slip to 3rd?

I'm about to have the shop install it but they have no idea if it will work..

VB mod should remedy this. I had this flare up from 1-2 @ 37k, got a VB at 40k, and I'm at 155k and it hasn't shown up since, in 10 years/115k. Solid and crisp as a rock, and very clean fluid.

The TransGo RE4F04B-HD2 shift kit did not fix the issue. The car continued to slip going into 3rd.

Had a tranny shop open up the trans. My 3rd gear clutch was shot as well as some seals he said. Had him replace all the clutches and whatever other parts were worn.

kept the shift kit.

getting car today. should have fixed the issue.

Motor mount and trans rebuild $2020

Sorry all but the shift kit may fix some peoples issues, but it did not fix mine

HD2 kit didn't fix the flaring on my car either... It still flares (100-200 rpm) under WOT but is fine under normal driving conditions

I am totally regretting the HD2 kit.

I do NOT recommend it to anyone.

The 1st - 2nd shift is STUPID. The car jerks and my seat shakes.. every single time.

The transmission seems to be running hot.. dipstick is hot.

Paying to have the valve body returned to stock very soon.

Heads up to all..

Hope all the rough shifts didnt damage my newly rebuilt transmission..

It sounds like you had something wrong with your transmission before the install.

I have installed a few, and have another coming. The HD2 kit is great for a nitrous car, but for normal driving, the regular kit is nice and crisp with no jerking. I always steer people clear of the HD2 kit.

^^ Hm, I'm not sure why all the issues. But maybe the regular kit is better for most people after all

I think it really depends on the health of your tranny and TC when you put the HD2 kit in, whether it will work well or not. If the tranny is already in bad shape, not surprising in that case that it works like crap.

I have no 2-3 flare, and there is zero issues of shifting 1-2, unless at WOT you dont even feel 1-2 its so smooth most of the time.

Had transmission rebuilt to perfect condition. Installed HD2. Car takes an artillery shell when shifting.

It's the HD2 not the Trans.

Evil shift kit. Prob killed my clutches.

Hm..I wonder if it works better on the 5th gen tranny vs 5.5 gen...even tho it makes no sense, could be possible.

Isnt the 5.5 auto the same tranny just "beefed up" a bit?
