Cattman Exhaust Catback

I installed a cattman exhaust catback on my 2002 Maxima SE. Its well made 3 inches, with large resonator.

I have noticed a drone between 25-35 miles speed. I will try to install 75mm Apexi Super silencer on both exhaust tip of the muffler to minimize the noise.

Looks like they would drastically choke the exhaust which is the whole point of going 3".

Your best bet would be to get that jumbo resonator that was proven to elimanate the done on the 3" systems. I think Cmax wrote up something about it but I might be wrong.

Cattman catback

You are right. I will install it just to pass the NJ inspection.

you should be able to pass without them. I don't think NJ puts the car on a dyno if it has ODBII.

I installed the apexi 75mm super silencer on the tip of my cattman muffler the drone between 25 to 35 miles speed is history, fortunately the performance was not affected. I highly recommend this super silencer, I bought it at rickspecd.com

That usually results in ricer farting noises. Video needed.

If I have a time I will take a video. The cattman exhaust catback that I bought is the last production of Brian with a large resonator compare to previous production.

You'll need my 3" Hybrid Resonator which is basically a 3" in/out 6" round x 18" long body (Magnaflow p/n 12649) along with the appropiate other pieces in order to civilize that Cattman 3" monster:

cattman exhaust catback

Magnaflow 12649 is not a resonator, I believe it is a mufler
http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/d...rtnumber=12649

The cattman resonator I have is large with 3 inches pipe, my mechanic place 3 pcs of flat washer to lower the support (on your first posted picture) to give space to the 3 inches pipe.

A resonator is a muffler....and your point is? Do you need help or direction? Or are you gonna teach me something?

I am not teaching you. I am sharing my experience, my point is I was able to tame my 3 inches cattman without a performance lost by placing those apexi 75 mm super silencer on both exhaust muffler tip. I believe there is a big difference between resonator and muffler.
A resonator will not suppress performance , just dampens the sound and alleviate exhaust drone .A muffler lower the sound by 3 major method:
1. Absorption
2. Restriction: affect performance
3. Reflection
Placement of two muffler on a exhaust system will affect performance . If those tip failed to tame the sound, I will install a MBRP universal resonator (304 stainless)at autoanything.com.
Just sharing my thoughts. Peace.

^^ Muffler and resonator = same thing just different sizes and designs for different placement on car.

Silencers hurt performance, due to the fact that you're effectively reducing the diameter of the outlet. Thats like getting 4" intake and capping half of it.

Silencers choke exhaust flow, resonators create low pressure area but dont choke exhaust flow like that. Both suffer from performance loss, but silencer is way worse than a good flowing resonator.

For best performance, be a man and forget both. Have loud exhaust, and grow hair on chest.

I mean, if youre gonna get a 3" exhaust to begin with, why turn around and take away some of that performance you just paid for..

Points well taken, I stand corrected.

Resonator and muffler are the same Correct! It's just where they're located in the system....2, 3, 4 straight thru mufflers aren't gonna hurt anything! That MBRP is suppose to eliminate drone...You'll need p/n R1017:

Oh by the way hope you did you homework regarding the MBRP design:

Magnaflow muffler utilize a 1 piece designed perforated core that is also the inlet/outlet ends as well, so there are no seams nor joints at all! Cattman's resonator had 2 joints, since his Core design was of a 3 piece construction: The inlet end > The Perforated Core > The outlet End... those few welds created turbulence and affected the actually flow....My Hybrid Resonator seemed to increase my throttle response quite a bit but I encourage you to at least try the MBRP and let us know how it performed acoustically and physically! Good luck!

Hey colt just so you know and Cmax if I'm wrong please correct me. Cmax is why Brian Catts made his resonator bigger on the last batch of catbacks. He was the inspiration behind it at least. So if there is one person who knows exhaust on our cars and a good person to take a tip from I think it's him. By the way I may be biased because I have one of his magnaflow resonators but I will tell you their craftsmanship and functionality are better than Cattmans resonator in my opinion. Anyway I'd take his wisdom considering Cattman is no more.

Yes, Cmax is right the magnaflow resonator is far better than MBRP resonator. The cattman resonator I have is humongous compare to Brian earlier batch its continous no restriction, I believed the 3 inches is suited for Turbo setup, unfortunately I have no choice ,to buy the 2.5 inches. But right now I am contented with the apexi 75 mm tip, because I work in NY and live in NJ , usually I reached home at around 1:00 AM. I am concerned about being pull over by cop along Route 4. Apexi 75 mm tip tame the sound of the beast, but as what Stillwell said "why turn around and take away some of that performance you just paid for" I can easily remove those tip and unleash the beast.

^^ Indeed, good luck.

Too bad they dont make an Apexi silencer for women, would.be way more useful.
