Strange clicking sound from steering column

Strange clicking sound from steering column
So I was driving home yesterday and at a red light I started hearing a random clicking sound. It sounded like it was coming from inside the steering column. The clicks sounded like the turn signal flasher but as if you were letting it click once at a time. At first I thought it might just be the flasher but when the turn signal was on I still heard the other clicking sound. Anyone have any ideas what it could be?

No idea, BUT my 2003 is going in for an airbag activator(?) recall. I have no symptoms.

My keys sometimes make a clicking sound. I didn't immediately know what it was.
But yeah, most likely a bomb.
