Leaving the 5th Gen fold

Leaving the 5th Gen fold
Well, we've coaxed many, many, many miles out of our trusty 5th Gen, but it looks like it's finally come time to say adieu. Tomorrow, our Maxima will be retired and replaced by a slightly newer ride. And, yes, not a Nissan.
She sure was a great car, though. That VQ30 is an amazing, durable engine. Fun, too!
Bye!

I've had this dream in my head that Nissan would swoop in and buy it back, just to see how the engine survived that many miles. Then, I wake up to reality.

If you did 750k or more and got it publicized, maybe. Cheap advertising for them.

^^Yeah what im thinking exactly. Another one of my past cars on a diff. forum had a member pass 500k. On original components/drivetrain and that auto maker had a special press conference and all and a red carpet event for "him" and the car. Plus many memoirs....
Edit: I see in your sig says 430k miles...

I'm positive the car could get to 500k with no problem, engine-wise. But, the suspension work it needs tipped the balance in favor of targeting that money toward a replacement.
It's been awhile since I sold a car on Craigslist. What's with these people responding to an Indiana ad with an email saying simply "call me" and leaving a California or Florida number? I assume it's a scam of some kind.

I guess. Still, CL is pretty-much the default place people go to buy/sell cars these days. There really isn't anything better, sad to say.
That said, we found the car we're replacing the Maxima with on CL, and it's a really sweet, well-maintained car that passed a dealer inspection with perfect marks.
Then again, the first guy who contacted me off my CL ad for the Maxima was a no-show yesterday.
So, yeah...Craigslist is pretty schizophrenic.

Whats the car you found to replace the Maxima, if not a secret? lolz
As for CL, we have an entire screening process for selling cars on there. Many, many morons, and many scam artists to sift thru. My buddy screens every idiot that contacts us thru there when we have a car for sale. You must do this, otherwise prepare for lots of idiocy and possible scam attempts.
Not only that, most people on CL will low-ball the **** out of you, that is even if they're serious about the car in the first place. You really have to know how to talk to these people and find the good ones from a pack of retards.

I can screen the most obvious CL responses...The ones that simply say "call me" or "text me" with a phone number 2000 miles away, for instance. Beyond that, I'm not sure how you can totally screen the flakes.
The car we got is a 2006 Accord EX-L sedan, 2.4L 4-cylinder, 5-speed manual. It has 163,000 miles on it, but it's a one-owner and it's really immaculate. The service manager at the dealership that did the inspection said they never see cars that nice.
As for low-balling...I just want the car gone. I'm open to almost any cash offer.

^ you got a Honduh? Traitor!
Nah just joking...that Honda will probably last forever too now...
As for CL...Our method of screening includes not giving a crap, changing a meeting time with potential buyer, completely ignoring buyer, etc...
From doing all that, the ones who are really interested will still be around, and then u know they actually want the car.

Believe me, we tried to find a descent Nissan that would fit into our narrow criteria. We really wanted a car that didn't require premium gas and got better mileage, and that pretty much eliminated every Maxima out there, and most of the Altimas. The few Nissans we found that fit our needs were all pretty sketchy.
This will be our third Honda (the Maxima was our second Nissan. We had a '91 Maxima before it which we drove to 315,000 miles). My wife currently drives a 2010 Fit. Long before that, we had an '86 Civic Si 5-speed hatchback . That was a great car, too.

the vacuum hoses and plastics and such are aged for sure. i have started replacing hoses and reservoirs. my windshield reservoir was so weak you could poke holes through it easier than a sheet of paper.
my trans shifting funny and and my high idle can't be rectified by very experienced mechanics but, i still love my max. nicest car i have owned my a miles.

Lol poor...
I dont know about that george. Depends on how well its kept over the years and where it's driven, garage kept also makes a huge difference.
There are still quite a few maximas out there in great shape. 3rd, 4th, 5th gens. These cars are old but they can certainly age well if taken care of.

Should've reduced the insurance on the car since it's old, started using regular fuel, fixed the suspension and you'd be better off financially. Seems like someone made your decision for you replacing the car with a used car, fail. Enjoy! Good luck.

It was 30k for a fully loaded GLE in the U.S. Which, is still by no means poor. In Europe, Japanese cars cost even more.
In Russia for example, Benz/BMW is cheap cuz they're right there location wise...But a Camry might cost double that of a Benz out there. Location is everything.
