2001 I30/Max Sunroof Resetting question - finding out WHY
OK,
There's many a post on here discussing how to reset the two types of sunroofs which appear to be split between 5th gen and 5.5th gen Maximas and i30's. They go something like this:
5th gen (2000-2001):
1. Close sunroof.
2. Turn off ignition.
3. Disconnect battery.
4. Turn on lights, and step on brakes. Repeat with pedal 10-12 times to drain all power from car.
5. Reconnect battery.
6. Tilt sunroof up, then back down.
7. Pull back on the slide lever. It should be fixed.
Alternate Method:
1. Locate relay
2. Remove relay
3. Replace relay
4. Sunroof works.
5.5gen: (2002-2003)
1. Hold the "Tilt Down" button for a 5-10 seconds until you hear something and that fixes it.
2. Whistle a happy tune.
I'm trying to find out WHY this "need to reset" condition keeps happening. At least twice a summer, my sunroof craps up and instead of being able to just flick the switch and it opens all the way, instead the panel moves in 2-inch increments, each move requiring a fresh button-push. And if you close it too far, it will open in "tilt" mode. Not a huge deal to pull the battery, but it's a PITA to do it, then reset the radio buttons, auto seat, etc.
My battery hasn't died or been disconnected for any reason. Everything else works fine. What CAUSES this "need to reset" condition? It's getting old.
