100,000 3.0 my neighbor is selling. Questions.

My neighbor is selling a black maxima (forget if it's 2000 or 2001) but with a 3.0 in it. It's got just a bit over 100,000. I thought it would be cool to just throw some tint on it and use it as a nice clean car.
So, she'd sell it for about 3k with 100,000 on the motor. Is that a good deal. And is 100k considered high?

I would say 100K isn't high at all on a Maxima. There's a few mileage threads around here, many people are well over 200K+ (One was 400K+)!

It all depends on how it was maintained, I have no idea about the price.

100k is nothing 3k is a ok price if the car is mint ,,, if it has small nicks and knacks work the price down to about 2500 or 2600 good luck

How well it has been maintained is very important for pricing.

Go to a bank (or 2 or 3) and ask them how much money they would loan out for the car.

Black Maxima

Based on Kelleys Blue Book 2001 Maxima SE in good condition:$3531.00
The 20th Anniversary Sedan Edition:$4311.00

Just hook it up to OBD Scan tool (go to autozone:its free) to check for error code or impending error code. Check the radiator support for excessive corrossion. Ask the seller when was the last time the sparkplug was changed.
VQ30DE the rear spark plug is accessible no need to remove the intake manifold. Check the front struts and rear struts, Check the brake rotors. Its a fair price if the car is well maintained to a category of GOOD

100k miles is low for it's age.

Ask to see maintenance records.

Use KBB, Craiglist comps for a starting point for its value.

100k is just getting started. If it's been well-maintained, grab it.

3k is very fair if it's in good shape considering how stupid used car prices are, now.

Thanks for the great responses, guys! It has some dinks that you can barley notice, and these 2 marks on the back bumper where she cleared bumped into someone. The man who had it before (He passed) took such incredible care of it. I mean, just incredible. I know I'd be getting a good car.

Here is the thing. I have my little 98' now. What I wanted to do with that is put some new stock wheels on it (Star pattern), get some tint, and leave it. I still wanna modify it, but I know it is on its way out with 130K.

When I saw this car, I forgot about all of that. I know it is going to be next to impossible to find a lower gen max that was so well maintained for the price.

See, I wasn't even looking to buy a car until I heard that she was selling this. Of course the ideal car would be the 5th gen with a 3.5. Should I just look around for that?

You might be hard-pressed to find a low mileage 5.5. I say jump on this one, and if down the road you find a low mileage immaculate 5.5, get it and sell this one.

I'd go with the 3.0 because it is a more reliable motor. So...better take this one before it goes by by!

and 5.5s are unreliable as hell until you delete the cats. Most won't do it and you know the rest.

Worst thing you have you to do on the 3.0 is the IACV water bypass. Perfection.

For its time maybe but compared to the used cars you can get now it is average-mediocre.

I'm enjoying my 5th gen, with its mighty 3.0L

The 5th gen has enough power to get you moving, sure it's not as much as the 5.5 gen... but still enough for everyday driving. Whether it's a 5th or 5.5, you can't go wrong getting one.

I just purchased my 01 SE a little over a month ago with 99k on it for $3800.
Mine is a 1 owner and dealer maintained up to 90k miles and has every available option. And I think I got a steal. So yeah depending on options and condition I would say 3k is a very fair price. Ive don't a lot of research recently and the market value for the 5th gens is right around $2500-$6000 in fair-excellent condition. Avg miles are around 80k-150k. My .02 for what its worth.

For $3000 it's a good deal especially if it's decent looking. That being said keep in mind you are not purchasing a new or like new car so it will have it's issues. I would jump on it if your looking for a daily driver.

She just sold it to me for 1,000. LOL! Nice!

My mom drives a smaller Honda that she said makes her feel uncomfortable on the highway, and I know I always feel safe in my Max, so I'm letting her use it.

For 1,000. No way I was passing that up.

So you also have a 4th gen with 130k and you think that's high milage?

Many have boosted at 200k with no issues. VQ30 is a tank.
Don't call it old until maybe 350k.

Yeah man, it wasn't meant as an insult. I've blown my transmission up once by being too reckless so now I'm sort of on edge and afraid to push my car.

add an external transmission cooler~assuming it's an auto.
That will help it last.
Transgo makes a shift kit too.

Man. Some of these 2003's going for 6k+ with 130,000 miles on them.

I took a look at the car tonight. Thank god this guy was absolutely crazy when it came to keeping it clean. The car has 3 scratches total. The biggest one is a paint spot the size of a nickel. Literally. Barely even swirl marks. Vacuumed the car out every week.

I'm giving it to my mom because her Honda is just beat to death. But I'll tell you, this thing is simply perfect. Right down to a clean engine bay.
