I'm being tempted by a... Honda S2000
I found a 2000 Honda S2000 for a fairly decent price, and it all seemed great until I got pictures sent over. I'll list a few points below (long list) and to sum it up, I'm tempted to leave for an S2000... But I don't have my hopes set high on this one!
Thoughts & Opinions please
- 192,000km's on the body
- 130,000km's on the engine (estimate?)
- Beat to hell and back, interior is in sad shape as well as the body
- Cracked fender, front & rear bumpers need replacing
- It's extremely modified and everything has pretty well been switched out for performance parts.
- Previous 6-8 owners in Canada (Ex-US) have beat the living crap out of it, but it has been Turbo'd and is pushing roughly 350hp?
- Runs good mechanically despite 60% of the dash lights being on
I'm sure I could go on, but I think based on the price and the fact that it's been beat I'll pass... I just wanted to share this with fellow Max members and get your thoughts

Best line right here, makes perfect sense.
Buy virgin cars in great shape, maintained, owned by older people, etc...Then start YOUR own project on modding it.
That S2000 I'm sure is a POS, there are only a handful of em left in fully modded state these days anyway...or even stock, you rarely see these cars anymore. They are not reliable over long term, especially the one you are looking at.

My thoughts exactly, I prefer original condition cars (unmolested) over highly modded ones. I guess if it was in showroom condition with low km and highly modded that's a different story It sure was nice to get back into my comfortable Max after... The replica racing seats were broken.
Either way I figured there was no harm in testing it! It's the kind of car I'd like to borrow and then give back

All These Honda Bashers.... The s2k was a unique car; and was a bang for the buck. Its an amazingly well laid out car imo. Maybe if the s2k carried a Acura Brand nameplate; perhaps there would be less bashing. All these Band-wagoners...
Granted the one the OP is referring to is a beater; "whored Honda" Find a clean well taken care of s2k and you will be pleased.
Id love to get my hands on one; but prices are inflated a bit for me (again because of the desirability) and discontinuation by Honda. To each their own.

Hey I've got a couple of Hondas.. I would like to sell the one with the V6.. Nissan has ruined my Honda ownership experience.
From local SCCA events, I'm seeing more Mazda Miata entries each year. So much so that I'm starting to call it Club Miata. The Miata owners seem to be having a lot of fun and winning at AutoX events.
Honda is going through a bad time right now. Some of my Honda contacts who work in industry quality management have posted many stories about Honda's leadership problems of late. Honda market share has fallen sharply while Hyundai and Kia are on the rise. I expect to see some big changes at Honda in the next couple of years.
One of the things I like about Nissan products is the availability and good pricing for OEM and quality aftermarket parts. I seem to pay about 30% more for comparable Honda parts.
You may be getting the S2000 at a near give away price. In that case, what have you got to loose?

It was a fair/good price. I was told it was on hold for me and I planned on going back the next day to see it. I wake up and apparently the car had been sold...
Either way this specific s2000 was very fast, but a complete POS. Everything happens for a reason! Who knows what I'll come across next..
