Humming noise coming from fuel system after engine shut down

Every now and again I get this humming noise coming from the rear driver side wheel area after I turn the car off.....I've research some posts and none of them confirmed a solution to the problem, they just say open the gas cap and relieve the pressure, which I do on a weekly basis. How should I go about correcting this?

See if it may be closer to under the rear seat. That's where the fuel pump is located. If that isn't it then it probably if your gas cap.

I don't actually believe you have a problem. I had the same issue occasionally last summer. It is the evap canister recovering vapors from your tank. This is a normal emissions process, as emissions laws prescribe how much leakage of fuel vapors are allowed. So just don't worry about it, and don't open your gas cap. That defeats the whole purpose of the system.

If I had to guess, this occurs more often when your tank is empty, right?

Thanks for the replies gents, it definitely is coming from the evap canister area....I got under the car and pin pointed the noise.

I have 1/4 of a tank left, so I guess just keep the tank full and problem solved? The noise isn't loud or anything, just annoying to hear, causing paranoia
