First you should see if you can find where the old refrigerant leaked out and repair that. Otherwise you could just be wasting your money. Then I would sugggest pulling the system under vacuum for about 30 mins and then see if the vacuum holds (you can hold it for 5 minutes with your gauges). Then fill the low pressure side. It is probably better to take it to a shop if you aren't familliar with the process though.

You have two ports - low pressure and high pressure. Your low pressure port is on your low pressure line. It is the line that runs along the passenger side of your engine and has a little bracket bolting it to your passenger front strut tower. Right by the strut tower you should have a port with a little black cap on it (sometimes the cap will be blue if someone changed it - by typically it's black on these).
