2000 Maxima Kick under hard acceleration.
Hey guys so I picked up a 2000 Maxima SE. It has an automatic transmission. I noticed sometimes when I put it in drive I hear like a kick or what sounds to be like the motor moves? It also will make this noise when I hit the gas pedal or "floor it" from a dead stop. I am thinking maybe one of the motor mounts is bad but how do I make sure?? I searched the forum but didn't find much. Any help would be appreciated.

Engine mounts
Safest way to check the mounts is, open the hood. Apply the parking brake and the foot brake. Start the engine, engage drive, and apply some throttle, look thru under the hood and see if the engine moves fore and aft.

Turbopete I did what you said and yea it seems like the motor tilts alot when I have my foot on the brake and apply the gas pedal. It even moves some when I put it in drive. What is the next step?? Replace the mounts or will window weld work to fix my mounts?

Yep, it'll take a day or two to fully dry, but it works great. It's firm, but not rock hard. I clean the mounts with carb cleaner. That **** sticks like epoxy.
There's no need to spend money to fix such a simple problem, especially when you're auto.
You want to make sure they're unplugged so the ECU doesn't get fried.

Ok guys so I had my buddy come and watch it while I put it in drive. He noticed that the front lower radiator support was rotted... causing the front mount to move. Is this a common problem with the 2000 maxima? ?

yea it's common, especially up north, fixing it is gonna be a PITA

Costs a lot to take it in and have a shop do it.
Anywhere from 400-700 depending on the shops in my area.
Some have cut out a good support from the yard and just measured and welded it in place after cutting out the rust.
I went the OEM route and had a shop do it

I think you can buy just the lower, but this is what I found.
Nissanpartsasap.com is good too.
There are a few more too I'm sure.
Those are the two I shop at.

Just wanted to add that if you do it yourself, you dont need to weld it back in. Theres about 10+ bolts that hold the sucker in place perfectly fine without any welding done - worked fine on my 4th gen (same part as 5.0 gens) for over half a year until i totalled her like a dumbass.
However you will need an angle grinder or a dremel with some quality grinding bits and some good drill bits to get all the spot welds. If you are not one for problem solving and having LOTS of patience, this job isnt for you - it was by far the most PITA job ive ever tackled. Id probably pay to have a shop do it when it needs to be done on my current max to be honest.

Yea I mean it seems like a good car otherwise. Yea I better have someone else do it then. Could I just weld in a piece of metal to what is left there?? I mean I know it's not the right way.. but would it work?
