You could offer 500 and install a transmission from a junk yard.
How is the rest of the car?

FYI a 2000 maxima is a 5th gen.

The tranny's in these cars are good if you do just basic maintenance,so if you're willing to pony up the cash to replace the tranny with a used one from the junkyard, it would be a sound investment. I would tend to goto a junkyard first before I goto to a rebuilt one. YMMV.

body in good condition? interior good? If it just needs a trans for a good car, might as well go for it....Installing a transmission is gonna be well over 1000$ but not over 2000$

then your price probably will be $1500-2000 for the car after the trans, which sounds good if everything else looks good.

It could be the clutch plates are worn out, it could be the solenoid to engage the clutch plates, it could be a clogged hydraulic passage for reverse and probably a few other reasons.

It all depends if you can get a good tranny for cheap from the junkyard and be able to do all the work yourself and have time for it. If not, well it's a no brainer to pass on it.

Thread moved to the proper forum.
