2001 Nissan Maxima - Tire Replacement
Hello everyone, the tires on my 2001 Nissan Maxima are almost worn out and I need to make a replacement soon. I was wondering if you had any advice on the best set of tires to purchase for the car, being price conscious. Simply put, what is the best bang for my buck?
Thank you.
Thank you.

Falken Zieh 512 ($530, $28.3)
Avon ($649, $39.3)
Bridgestone Potenza RE960 ($723, $15.3)
Above, for each tire I listed: (my purchase price for 4 tires installed, my cost per 1000 miles computed when the tire was replaced). Note that the Potenza RE960 was the most expensive, but that it gave me the best "bang for the buck" at $15.30 per 1000 miles. The reason is simple: the Potenza lasted 47.5k miles and behaved extremely well, while the Falken became so noisy at 16K that I could not wait to replace it.
At the moment, I feel that the best all-season tires for our cars are:
- Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3. Excellent handling, 45K thread wear warranty, not quite as good in snow as the Conti below. I am driving this tire at the moment, and I am very happy with it.
- Continental Extreme Contact DWS. Currently the #1 rated all-season ultra-performance tire on TireRack, 50k mile thread wear warranty. Very likely, this will be my next tire, unless something better comes along.

16 or 17?
I have these in 16. They're a sweet tire for the price.

The Turanza Serenity is a very good tire. It has a 50k mile thread-wear warranty, so it will definitely be more than good enough for the 10k miles you plan to put on the car.

Don't buy cheap tires. As a rule, the cheaper tire you buy, the more it will cost you on "per mile basis". The reason is simple: cheap tires don't last. Plus, they run awful once you get few miles on them.
