Alternator getting Weak ? ? ?
Fellow Nissan Enthusiast,
I bought a REBUILT alternator from Pep Boys with a Lifetime Warranty 12 mths ago.
Recently, the car was struggling to turn over...so i had the battery and alternator tested at Autozone, Advanced and my mechanic. My mechanic's opinion, was that the Alternator is charging---but very weak on the charging. In other words, its not putting out the full voltage that its supposed to charge the battery enough.
ALSO, According to my mechanic, Pep Boys WILL NOT honor the lifetime replacement, unless the alternator is completely Dead.
QUESTION: How do I COMPLETELY kill this alternator?

(i think i'll just stick a garden hose on it...after i flush the Radiator. Kill 2 birds with 1 stone).

Why don't you talk to Pep Boys? Tell them that your mechanic says that the alternator can't put out a full charge, that it fails under load. I think you mechanic may be wrong about about the totally dead thing. An alternator that fails under full load is a common failure of the voltage regulator.

My mechanic KNOWS the head dude at parts depart.---BUT it's worth a phone call. Its putting off a charge BUT right at the bottom of the scale. I changed the battery terminals, so maybe that will help it take a charge. The battery seems to be good...but when running AC, radio, lights, ---the alternator doesn't seem to be putting off a strong enough charge.

I thought I had a similar issue, but in the end, it turned out to be the battery. I can't complain - that battery had survived two dead alternators and 6 years of everyday service.
Generally, when the alternator dies, lesser batteries will die with it.

Yep...battery went dead. Bought a new one...seems to solved the problem now. Still, weak alternator is not good.
