Please help! Crank sensor!

I have an 03 maxima with 6 speed tranny, I replaced the crank sensor bc the code was on. After it still didn't start very easy so I unplugged the sensor and it would start then I plugged it back in and the tach would come back on. But if I clear the code it wouldn't start until I unplugged jt again. So I assumed the flywheel was miss aligned, pulled the tranny and its lined up. But the timimg gear is pretty banged up and looks like it got hit with a ginger a time or two. So my question is do you think I need to replace the flywheel replaced?

The timing ring can't get banged up by itself. If it worked fine before, then it should still work fine if the sensor is good. I think the replacement sensor is junk.

Take a picture of the ring, I'd like to see it. It can almost fall off and it'll still work fine (I know, mine was barely held in by a couple screws on the fidanza).

Someone put the wrong oil pan on so they tried grinding a new hole in the tranny and hit the plate in the process

Looks good enough to work to me. I'd return the sensor and either get oem or one from napa (haven't had any trouble with their cam sensors).

Im lost on this how do I know if this is the original engine or original tranny or if the placement of the crank sensor is in the right spot and why would it read for the tach but not for the ecm?

Wait, you bought it like this?

It can't be misaligned b/c of how it fits into the oil pan/tranny case.
It does sound like the motor has been swapped if they left on the wrong oil pan.

Yeah it had an oil pan where the sensor came in on the bottom but I changed it to an 03 oil pan so it comes in close to the starter so now I'm confused on to why it'll read on the damn tach but not ecu, unless the engine was right snd they swapped trannys, thats why I wanna find out what is the correct motor and tranny

Why not just finding a new (used) one to rule it out as a potential suspect? After all it's already out

Well for anyone who has been wondering or following along. Got it put back together and started right up. Now threw a random misfire on cylinder 3 so I'll be replacing the coil. Soon

Ok so I while running through the rpms while in neutral or even driving at about 3500 rpms my car will fall on its face just for a split second and continue reving up and then again in the higher rpms. If running at a constant rpm around 3500 rpms it will just cut in and out. I have no codes except a p0447 evap circuit
