I'm buying parts for my 5.5 gen. Need advice and help!

Hey guy's and gal's hope everyone is doing good! I'm the second owner of a 02' Max GLE (5.5 gen, A/T) The car itself is clean with 113,000 miles. Did some mechanical work to so far just to get it driving safely (entire front suspension work, rotors, brakes and from my understanding it has a new transmission replaced from previous owner). Replaced the wheels and tires with Rota Grids 17x7.5 wrapped in Toyo Proxes 4 225/50/17.
Alright so I told myself I wouldn't do any modifications because it's a A/T however I couldn't resist any longer after owning the car 3 months now and made the following purchase's the other day...

1. STILLEN HI-Flow Intake Kit.
2. STILLEN Grounding Kit
3. NWP FULL Big Bore Throttle Body Kit- 75mm TB, Adapter Plate, and Harness.
4. NWP 5pc Phenolic Thermal Intake Spacer Kit.
5. NWP VIAS Block Off Plate- Basic.
6. NWP Engine Torque Bracing Kit.
7. Ebay Test Pipe (2.5", Length 12.5")
8. Megan Racing OE-RS Cat Back Exhaust (waiting on backorder)
9. OBX Headers/Y-Pipe.

I also ordered OEM gaskets for the headers back, MAF cleaner, anti-foulers, ES sub-frame bushings. How am I looking? What else should I be doing?

You should do a tune after that for sure. So get another 02 bung welded on the y-pipe, after the flex and before your test pipe, for a wideband sensor. Then street tune or dyno tune with an AFC of your choice. You can also go the expensive route for more options and potentially more power with a Haltech for 350z, using a harness by Nisformance or Boomslang. Also can use an old UTEC for 350z which will also require an expensive harness. If you get your rev limit raised I suggest the SSIM mod too. Maybe ditch that stealin intake and get a CGR 4" with some GTR injectors. I dunno READ! :-D

One more thing... if youre going to stay auto. One of the best mods you can do is a TrangoHD2 valve body mod. Some new solenoids while your at it...trans cooler helps.

Thank you for your input. I am planning to get pro-tune by a speed shop after all the work is done I just don't know who yet in the NY/NJ/CT area. Good stuff thanks again!

I was thinking of Trans cooler however am gonna hold off on that for now. Im gonna look into TrangoHD2 valve body as it is the first time I'm hearing of it. Thanks!

In my personal opinion beside forced induction the transgoHD2 is the most noticeable mod you can do for an auto. You will feel the biggest gain in power and performance hands down from the transgo it's not even close.

Actually you probably shouldn't be wasting money on performance parts on any 14 yro front wheel drive grocery getter but we all do. To the op give it a lot of thought before you start down the never ending money pit of performance on a maxima. There's many other platforms that are better suited, have way more options, and cost much less then the max.

Yes I know and I agree. I really thought I wouldn't be doing any performance mods just catback however I was wrong on that loll. When I was looking for a 02-03 max I could only find 1 that was a 6spd close to me for sale however that car had some rust issues on the rear fenders and that turned me away. The GLE I bought is clean inside and out so I went for that. BTW my two previous cars were evos. The last one I had made 400whp and 359wtq. Now that ish was fun!

How in the world are you going from an evo to a max? FYI it's very common for the rear wheel wells to rust out on our cars. Especially in rust belt.

Maxima is more like a luxury boat...... Turn radius makes it a pain for grocery parking lots

Long story short auto insurance is asking a ridiculous amount of money for one year coverage now. My reason for buying this maxima is that my first car was a 4th gen GLE, a '99 and before that my sister had a '95 GXE I used to drive alot. Both were good cars to us at the time so I kinda felt comfortable buying another maxima. My favorite being the 02-03 models.

Good choice 02/03 I think is not only the best version of the max but also the last version of what the max was supposed to be 4dsc. Also for you and anyone else reading try aaa for insurance. Yes you do need to buy the towing coverage to qualify for the discounted car insurance. But at the age of our cars it's money well spent. Not only that but once you have the towing coverage you qualify for the discounted insurance. They literally cut my rate by 50%. Not to mention they write full year policies. In NJ that's uncommon. I think only one other insurance company in the state that does that I believe. Just an idea.

Dudes, modify all the way. 5.5 is the last generation of the great maximas. I'm knee deep in a rebuild of an 02 gle with 104k. I just changed plugs, coils, water pipes, complete exhaust including pre cats, and I just broke 4 pre cat to manifold bolts! I'm hating life in the driveway drilling these suckers out, and I don't even care! The Max is an icon. I still got brakes, rotors, cv axles, and control arms to do this weekend, but I'm gonna grab a beer, and "gettter done"! Ride on brothers...

That's awesome. Good luck with the transformation.
