One of the first things I do with my cars is swap in LEDs for all the bulbs. I've had the Maxima for a few years now but the one I had would sometimes flicker and require me to smack it to get it working again. Inevitably this would cause a fuse to blow. So I bought a new festoon LED today hoping to resolve this annoying issue. No flickering so far with the new one, but when installing it of course it managed to blow the fuse again. What the hell is this cars problem with the dome light and blowing fuses? I guess the next time I'm going to take the fuse out pre-emptively and then put it back in, but what makes the original bulb fine and these LEDs keep shorting it out?

I can tell it's like a short, I'm guessing as I push it in it's making contact with that tiny patch of metal behind where the bulb holder is? Not the hugest problem ever since I don't mess with it much, but I'd love to know if this is an annoying problem that others have run into or if it's just mine.

You have a unique problem, this is not a common thing. One thing about Nissan is that most of their lights have power to them all the time. Nissan runs the ground though the switch. So when the light is off, there is still 12 volts in the lamp socket.

In your case, try using some electrical tape. Wrap a strip around the contact ends so only the tips are showing. Also put a layer of tape over the back of the little printed circuit board. If you still get the fuse blowing, this will rule out the led touching something.
