Navigation confirmation Override?

Has anyone here turned off the navigation confirmation menu, or been able to turn off the "no-drive" mode for inputting waypoint info? Stupid design as passengers can easily input the info for the driver.

I think if you get a hold of the wiring diagram for the nav unit, and can find the wire for the VSS, you could probably put a switch in-line and use it to fool the nav unit into thinking you're stopped. Input what you need, flip the switch back so the nav unit gets updated speed information again for course plotting.

Wiring diagram should be readily available in the service manual. And those can usually be found at phatg20.net.

The best mods are never plug and play.

http://www.kptechnologies.com/ Some promise here... Looks like the module would need to be spliced into the nav VSS wire.... Have by chance you taken out the navi unit? Any tips?

Never removed the nav, though it seems that it's stored in the same spot as the normal head unit on non-nav cars. Pretty much everything is contained right there in the HU area, with the screen seeming to be nothing more than the screen and the folding mechanism.

well what your looking for would be what aftermarket units do to override... ie. using the handbrake signal which can be gorunded out and you can program at all times..

the OEM system uses the VSS and by intterupting the signal you can make the system think the car is stopped which will work on local roads if your going slow. HOW EVER.. on the highway speeds the navi uses GPS along with speed sensor (more reliant on GPS) for positioning.

THE vss interrupt will work when your going slow but when the car is m oving fast it wont allow you to program becuase of the GPS telling the system teh car is moving..

Thanks for the info... Im usually pugging around in the city stopped then rolling slowly trying to finish the address when the nav lock kicks in.. Highway input is not a real concern at the moment..
