Vortex Valve

Anyone know if the vortex valve really works? Says it can increase gas mileage by 20% and add horse power.

Anything that disrupts or reduce the flow of air over the MAF (and to the engine) will reduce power. Think of the air turbulence over a car: more turbulence => more air resistance.

A CAI (Cold Air Intake) is more effective because the air is piped-in using smooth bends, reducing air resistance. This increases the air flow to the engine, the ECU adds more fuel, and you get more power. 10-15WHP that is.

But, if you still decide to buy a Vortex, I would suggest also getting a performance module/speed chip on Ebay. Please show us your dyno results before and after the change.

looks like a variation to the "tornado".

less restriction to the airflow, the better.

True story... the autoshop teacher that appears in the tornado infomertial doing a dyno on a car with and without the tornado, was my teacher at saddleback collegue, he didnt want to talk about it, but finally we convinced him, he just told us that the number that the dyno showed were real, (about 10hp), he said that he was actually really surprised that it worked but it did, and by the way he told us the whole story i actually kind of trust him..... but theres only one way to find out right! whos got an extra 50 bucks..... ouch, not 50 but 75,

well, there are documented cases where specific adjustments to turbulence with regards to air can generate higher efficiency. a good example of this is a simple golf ball. all of those tiny divits(sp?) actually generate turbulance in a way that allows the ball to travel further. Large Silos in a field may block wind, but because of their shape and ribbing from the sheetmetal, it causes the air to speed up around them. So, if you're willing to drop some bucks on theorys and stories, give it a try. I'm personally reserving my final call to anything like that until i see impartial 3rd-party data that confirms the results. Another fact to look at is that, if such a simple, cheap piece of metal like the tornado or this vortex thing can result in such gains, how come the automotive industry isn't moving to impliment these into all their cars and trucks? You know how much the big3 would love to increase their CAFE industry ratings?

I remember reading someplace that Popular Mechanic or one of those mags tested a few of these gizmos and called B.S. on all of them. If you think about it if thats all it took was a few bits of metal to swirl the air around to up your mileage this stuff would be OEM on all cars

it's a scam! so are all the so called "speed chips or performance chips" from ebay! Underneath the fancy box, it is just a resistor.
Here is the popular mechanics test results on all those and some magnetic fuel saver?
