Catalytic Converter causes Mass Air Flow Sensor to go bad
Happy New Year to everyone. So I had a SES Light on for the longest because I was told it was my O2 Sensors by Autozone. So I let it be. However under my parents request I took it to Nissan to have them look at it. They told me that the Catalytic Converter is eating itself up from the inside. Good News is that it is still under warranty. Bad news is he tells me that "IT" caused the Mass Airflow Sensor to go bad and that is not covered under warranty. He is trying to get it covered under the warranty but not sure if Nissan will do it. So my question to yall is should I fight this and how so? Do I go in guns a blazin'? Or do I try the adage "You catch more flies with honey......"? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again

wait and see what they say. If they give you the run around let the bullets fly. I mean personally I don't see how the MAF could go bad because of the Cat. The MAF is just a sensor that measures airflow and nothing else. It doesn't correct for anything nor does it recieve any inputs. It basically sends data not receive. I would wait it out maybe Nissan will fall for their own crap and think the Cat caused it. I would go with it and argue that if Nissan knows thier cats are bad and are "destroying" themselves while breaking other parts in the process than everything effected should be covered by their faulty product. GL hopefully it works out. If they don't cover the MAF I recommend you buy the JET MAF for our car.

Good call I will do that. If **** gets deep I will have them break out books and prove it to me that this caused the Mass Airflow Sensor and why change it when I never specifically said to do so. I wanted to pick my car up but the guy told me it was dangerous to drive because it could break apart at any moment and ingest itself in to the engine. Now I am not a car mechanic but I am an aircraft mechanic, how does a Catalytic Converter that is downstream from the engine and part of the exhaust system hurt my engine? I ask this because when I talked to them yesterday I was told that my car wasn't safe to drive. Didn't make sense then and still doesn't.

Good News. They changed the Catalytic Converter, the MAF Sensor and the EGR Valve all for zero balance and with me not having to say a word. And no more SES light staring me in the face every time I started the car.

So as the pre-cats break down, kinda like sand particles, search and you can find members who put aftermarket headers on, and show the cat particles that pour out, those particles score the cylinder walls and eventually lead to oil burning.

My "07 max has 37,500 miles on it. Bought it used in March '09 from a Nissan dealer. Found out yesterday the catalytic converter needs to be replace for about $1000.
Question: is 37,000 miles about the right time for this expensive repari to be made? Of course, I'm 1500 miles past warranty. Any suggetions would be much appreciated.

I wish my catalytic would have gone out earlier, instead it went out at 74,000 miles which was still under the 80,000 that's covered but it was 8 years and 11 months old so they said warranty ended at 8 years! if this is really happening to so many people why hasn't it been recalled?
