Saggy Mufflers

I seem to remember reading about a common problem w/ the 6th gen max...sagging mufflers. Problem is I can't search here so I must ask, is this a common problem and has anyone had any luck w/ fixes from the dealership or on their own?

My right one is hanging low

TIA!

I'm not sure I would call this a "common" problem, but yeah others have had this issue with one of their mufflers. I recall that theirs hung down like 1/4" lower on one side than the other (which isn't much). They were able to take it to the dealer as part of the Bumper-to-Bumper warranty and have them fix it. I haven't heard of anyone having to go back to get it fixed again, so I'm guessing that just a trip to the dealer should fix it.

It happened to mine after a long trip. The right one is a good 1/2" lower than the right. It's very obvious. And I know I didn't back into anything as I am a nut case when it comes tro the car. Since it happened I have noticed numberous Maximas around town w/ uneven mufflers.

Huh, that's interesting... when I checked mine out (quite a while ago), they both looked fine. I'll have to check again tomorrow when the sun is out.

If you are still under warranty (I'm assuming you are since you have an 06), take it back to the dealer to have them fix it.

It was a problem on the 04s, I assume they fixed it for 05 though.

um, the driver's side tailpipe finishers tend to hang...
2nd time fixed it for me.

heard nothing of the actual muffler being unsecure.

Ahh you bassturds... I thought mine were ok then I went out and looked a little more closely. My right one is hanging down a little more than my left one.... and I aint talkin about my boys either!!! My right muffler is @1/2 inch lower from the bottom of the bumper as compared to my left, now its gonna bother me. At least each side isn't tilted, I've seen Maxs like that, it looks REALLY bad.

everyone is talking about just the chrome tailpipe right? NOT the entire muffler?

Well you notice the tips over everything else but Id say its the whole muffler. Just because ive seen to many 04s with greddys that arent aligned and I blame it on the factory hanging points.

This was a prevalent problem in spring of 2003 (first months the 6th gen was out). Half the '04s arriving at my dealer in March, April and May had uneven tail pipes (or muffler, if you prefer that terminology).

I measured an SE where one pipe was 3/4 inch lower than the other. That may not sound like much, but it looked awful. I think most folks on this board, being '****' about their vehicles, would easily be able to visually detect a difference as small as 1/4 inch, as these pipes are close to the bumper, which gives a 'fixed' reference point.

By summer of 2003, I was seeing much fewer 'misaligned' tailpipes. I'm not sure I have seen any since fall of 2003.

Just checked mine and it looks fine, but as soon as I left out I saw one that was sagging badly on the left. I believe the person backed up on to something because the the tips looked bent underneath. It looked terrible. I guess we need to be careful when backing up onto those concrete barrier thingies in certain parking lots.

have we found a fix for this yet?

I belive the hanger hooks up to a rubber grommet under there, could it be the rubber getting loose or streching, causing the muffler to hang lower from one side..

correct me if I'm wrong.. I still haven't looked under there to verify this..

My 05 Max has the same problem. I plan to change my tips to the 07 tips and then I will adjust them.
