Need to replace motor..suggstions

Well My dumbass finally did it...blew a damn hole right through the engine. Anyways, I have found many vq35de engines all listed for the 5sp mt and 4sp at...I was wondering if there are any differences in the engine that would prevent me from hooking up my 6sp in a direct swap? Also do you guys have any recommendations for a better version vq that will be a direct swap? Looked it up a little in the forums but didn't really answer my question. After I get the motor I will keep a pretty thorough post on it. Thanks

I believe that the 04 to 08 motors are pretty much(give or take a few minor changes) the same except for horsepower mine is a 05 with 265 and i think the 06 to 08 are a little less. BTW how did you blow your engine???? These engines are pretty bulit proof unless you revved the hell out of it or lack of maintenance?!?!? To replace if I blew my motor I would buy other car unless you still own money on it? If you put another engine in it and that engine goes it will be nothing but a money pit. Unless you buy a new engine.$$$$$$

Havnt got any real answers from anybody including Nissan..they basically backtrack the vins and see if it is the same part numbers...they said certain engines my very well fit but they cannot tell me which ones actually will. I was basically asking if anyone has done a swap and could provide any fitment issues or insight on if AT engines are not compatible. Thanks

Call some junk yards to see if they have one, or call your local auto zone.
I believe they have crate motors for a few grand.

I think he was really more looking for the compatibility between the years of 04-08 and auto and six and five speed manual engines found in 02 and above Alitima SE's before he just bought a motor ???

Yeah basically looking to see what engines would fit (ie. 4sp at, 5sp at etc.) Basically what I have found from the tech manual and talking to a few yards and shops through parts referencing...I think I can use a motor from the a/t..but from what I found it looks like I will need to swap the flywheel and take off the pilot converter from the crank and replace with a pilot bushing for the 6sp mt. I feel like a straight a#$hole...but I made a damn big mistake by not putting my nozzles back into the lines for my nitrous/fuel(it was a loooooooong day). A retest in 4th gear....maybe 700hp later..holes in block. Yeah. Well upside I will have an extra intake to port match and finally get around to installing y and headers(already ordered). The reason for my original question was I found many a/t engines and one is actually 1.5hrs away with 51k miles on it and only$750....Ive been getting quotes for the last few days around $1100-1300 all day...Nissan quoted $4k..haha they got jokes. And I was trying to get any input on any other mods I should do while I have my baby stripped down. I have everything stripped. 2 Mounts still on and 2 tran bolts still in. Gotta assemble my engine hoist, and unbolt the engine mounted shaft bearing, and that should be that. Let me know if you guys have any good input....I hear removing the pilot converter is a *****. I guess I'll find out soon enough.

I'm not sure how far upstate you are, but there is a NYCMaximas.org member selling vq35's <90K for $650. According to this thread, he has 14 motors ready to sell, all of which come with a 30 day warranty.

Check this thread out. If you haven't already registered on this site, go ahead and do so.... Goodluck

Engine is removed. Everything is coming along well. Got my UDP, headers and y (need to get the bung welded for egr), stage 2 exedy clutch has been ordered and awaiting arrival and started port matching my intake....I will probably do slight work on the head ports as they are slightly smaller than the gasket holes. I might possibly get a fidanza flywheel...but I havnt convinced myself enough yet. I will post pics the next couple of days..If you guys have any questions, feel free to ask.

once I fixed that connector car started right up...car is in limp mode right now from the blow I believe..fixed a coolant leak from a blown o-ring, exhaust with headers and y sounds amazing. I still have to install the o2 sim and install drive shafts and tires...vent clutch..top off fluids, squeeky new belt from the udp, then clear the cel..Ill post pics when fully done.

this place called indoor auto parts. was about an hour from me and picked it up for $703...last recorded was 55k. they had one with 45k ...but it actually looked like it was in worse shape and missing a valve cover and the crank pulley was completely rusted off. SO far so good.
