Farewell Maxima friends!

After over 9 years and nearly 132K miles, I've decided to move on. I officially sold my 2004 Maxima at the end of November.

I miss it from time to time, but my commute has changed enough after moving to "the city" that it was beginning to cost too much to operate. It was also starting to have some issues pile up (including some concerning intermittent noises that no one could figure out, that sounded like a bad CV joint with the popping), so it was time. Nothing major yet, but things I didn't want to mess with anymore - including occasional transmission slippage. Overall, it was a good car and I will miss it.

I've appreciated the help and information that we've all shared over the last many years, and I'll pop in a bit from time to time to see how things are going with the new Maximas too.

Thanks for everything!

You may laugh, but I ended up getting a Leaf. It works out perfectly for my commute and errands around town. It's our second car now, so we still own a traditional car for longer trips.

I am new to this forum and new to the Maxima scene, I have always loved Maximas, just never purchased one before. My girlfriend however has a 2004 SE, and now after driving it so many times I finally have come to a conclusion....I MUST BUY A MAXIMA!!! Now I see Maximas everywhere I go, I'm always up late at night (like right now lol) looking at websites that have to do with Maximas, and I can't stop thinking about owning one. Hence the reasoning behind my user name. So sorry to see you go Monotaur, but for everyone that leaves, another enters! I can't wait to buy my 6th Gen Max!! Shopping now......I will upload pics the day I buy it!!!

Yes, it actually is pretty torque'y. I've had quite a bit of fun driving it actually, and I've really been enjoying the much-reduced turning radius.

Yeah, I saw the article you are talking about. They pulled 0.96 lateral G's with special tires - 0.97 after taking the doors off.

No problem. While not great, I ended up trading it in for $6.5K, which is frankly more than I was expecting, even in a private party sale (it was about $2K more than I was expecting with a dealer trade-in). When negotiating, they told me that they were going to lose at least $3K on the deal. I did also have slightly worn snow tired mounted on it at the time on 17" wheels, so the deal also included the stock 18" wheels and tires. My car also had an OEM iPod adapter and XM installed, but no NAV, etc. I think it was basically middle-of-the-road as far as options went (but no traction control or VDC, which is a negative here in Colorado).

I've checked since, and the dealership where I sold it had it listed for almost $10K on their website, but I have noticed that they recently dropped the price to ~$8K. We'll see how far it falls.

Anyway, thanks! And good luck!

CV like popping noises? Yeah got them too. Never figured out what it is. Had the car raised and tried to rattle every suspension components to figure out what is causing it.
To this day its a mystery.

Weird, right? My shop also raised the car in the air and rattled every suspension part, and nothing.

It was very weird. I recall it happening after the car was "warmed up" and had been driven for a while. One time, I drove for about 1-1.5 hours and by the time I parked, the noise was absolutely horrible. When I came back out about 2 hours later, no noise whatsoever. The strangest thing. But yeah, it sounded very much like a bad CV joint when turning.

If you ever find out what it is, I'd like to know.

You left it just about where I did, 9 years and 132,xxx. I had different reasons though, I needed something far less practical and fuel efficient. But do I wish I held onto the max for winter? Actually no because as you said, things started piling up that would need fixing, some wear and tear others not (Needed tires, tune up, belts (was squeeling at times badly) and there was the ever present rust issues that popped up around the wheel wells and windshield. If I were to whip it into perfect shape id have to sink $2,000+ and instead they have me $8,000 to trade it in. It was nice not having payments though.
