Disable the "self-lock" option

ok...a few months ago i bought a 02 SE, 6 speed. love the car, but i HATE the self locking doors. how can i shut this off...anyone?

PS. by self locking doors i mean the way the car locks all the doors when you reach a certain speed and unlocks them when you shut the car off.

wait-what??

My car doesn't do that, I'd LOVE for it to.

The wife's Yukon does that, it's great.

I'd almost give up my remote start for that feature......

almost

Sometimes my car decides to lock up all one its own. I'll be in the garage, and I unlock the car to get something out, then a few minutes later I'll hear "clunk!" and it's locked again.

Gremlins. Or a stupid feature I don't understand.

Suppose I could read the owners manual...? Nah.

i dont believe the 5/5.5 have it as an option. I know my locks and windows tend to get a bit quirky when its super cold

I hadn't heard of this option but since I don't have any intentions of getting out of the car when its going 60 miles an hour, it's ok with me.

My 02 6sp does not auto-lock when rolling neither does it lock it-self while doing nothing...

No self-lock function on mine. I did make the mistake when exiting the car at a gas station of bumping the manual lock lever next to the door handle, and locked myself out. Fortunately my moonroof was cracked open a tad, and I could get a hanger in there and unlock the door.

On the 3rd gens, the module that controlls the doors locking, called the timer module, would develop cold solder conditions and they would do all kinds of wierd things, like lock/unlock by themselves, never unlock or lock, etc. Maybe there is a comparable module in the 5th gens.

In response to the wire gremlins, I have a 03 Maxima that the sunroof has opened on it's own. It has happened twice now. Also the engine has just shut off on the car a couple of times while just driving down the road. After sitting a couple of minutes it would start back up. Don't have a clue why.
Thanks for any help.

Brilliant link! Thanks!

I wish i knew how to switch to mode 2 with my keyfob... Anyone?

Hazard and Horn Reminder Mode (key fob allows you to choose between modes 1 & 2, but there are 4 others)
Mode 1 (C Mode): Lock = 2 flash, 1 horn /// Unlock = 1 flash, 0 horn
Mode 2 (S Mode): Lock = 2 flash, 0 horn /// Unlock = 0 flash, 0 horn
Mode 3: Lock = 0 flash, 0 horn /// Unlock = 0 flash, 0 horn
Mode 4: Lock = 2 flash, 0 horn /// Unlock = 1 flash, 0 horn
Mode 5: Lock = 2 flash, 1 horn /// Unlock = 0 flash, 0 horn
Mode 6: Lock = 0 flash, 1 horn /// Unlock = 1 flash, 0 horn

Mine does it, but I was told it was because of the aftermarket alarm/remote start. Do you have one of these modules installed?

mine auto locks right after i start the car with the key and will unlock itself when i shut the car off. I have a remote start and it will not lock the car until the key is in the ignition and and tap the brakes. I hate the feature. I have locked myself out so many times because i have gone back inside the house and forgot to unlock the car and the wind closes the door. Wish i new how to disable it also

^This. But thank god for AT&T roadside support, hasn't cost me a dime yet (except for the time the car was running and it took them an hour to get there, prob burned through a gallon or two of gas)

I would love that feature too!
Driving in South America, you're always warned to lock your doors while driving, because you get little thieves trying to hijack your car or just grab something inside it quickly.

I wonder if this feature can be added onto 5th Gen, 2000 GLE?

I believe after market remote start usually have that ability but you can program that out. Get one of those DFI (these guys make all the Viper, Clifford and few other systems) manuals from web. They will have instruction on how to change this behavior.

i use the stock key fob...i bought the car used...and didn't get any other remote with the car...but i guess if no one else has this feature, its the only logical reason why it does that.

If the doors are unlocked by factory remote or key in the door, they will automatically re-lock after a few minutes if the doors are not opened. I assume its a safety feature just in case the unlock button is pressed by accident. As for the auto lock when the car starts moving, never heard of this feature on a Maxima.
