Can an exhaust leak trigger the Service Engine Soon light?

My engine light came on today...

I'm up to date with maintenance on her and I don't really know what the problem could be.

I have a pretty bad leak in the Flex Pipe and haven't got around to getting it fixed yet, could it be that the leak got bad enough to illuminate the light?
I'm going tmr to have my mechanic run the code but trying to figure out what may be wrong.

Step 1. Read codes.
Step 2. Listen to your mechanic.
Step 3. Research what you need to know.
Step 4. Fixed.

You jumped right to Step 3. Take a deep breath, and wait it out until tomorrow.

Possibly. I know my test pipes are not snuggly fitted and there is a leak which i need to retighten soon and my check engine light has been coming on pretty often the past few months.

test pipes usually set off the rear o2 sensor because the readings are different.

But yes an exhaust leak CAN cause a cel. It is EXTREMELY RARE it has to be a massive leak at the right spot.

Think about it now - o2 sensor is a Oxygen sensor, it is looking for changes, from a preset value, in the oxygen in the exhaust. You have a "massive leak" ahead of the OXYGEN sensor
