the new Maxima has arrived!

Yesterday evening I picked up my 2009 Maxima w/ Sport Pkg; Dark Slate/Charcoal! Man, this car is so awesome. I'll have to drive it a bit more but first impressions are the 19" rims along with the spoiler on the Sport look awesome. The premium leather seats are very nice and the red stiching is very subtle. You definately feel the road a bit more in the sport than the regular SV with the 18" rims. Also very much more than the 2008 SL I was borrowing from the dealer the past couple weeks. But it handles great and, once again, the turning is soooo much better. This is one bad machine! Pics below.

Not to shabby...I like the color

Only thing that I found goofy about the car were the GIGANTIC paddle shifters and of course the head-lights...but I have to agree that the car looks amazing and the red stitching is a GREAT touch to it.

I really hope for your sake that Nissan has ironed out the initial quality issues that I continue to experience in my '08 SL (8 months of ownership). And if you do have an issue, I hope there is a service dept in your area that is competant because that would be a rarity IME.

That 07-08 dash (w/o navi) is wayyy more classy than the 09 dash. Whats up with the aluminium borders around every button and **** in the 09?

Hurricane434 - Great ride! Baaad Azzzzz!

As for the 'Accord' comment, I have friends with Accords, and although the newest ones are not bad, I never seem to notice Accords. But there is NO WAY this Maxima gets by me without being noticed. The front looks much more aggressive than the front of the Accord, and the 'Coke bottle' body looks much more athletic than the body of the Accord. This new Maxima is definitely a full class above the Accord. This beast is a TL Type 'S' and G35/37 fighter.

'07-'08 Front end is also MUCH more appealing than this '09 IMO.

I can see why folks might feel this way. I thought the '07/'08 Maxima grille was exactly what should have been on the '04-'06 Maxima SE instead of the big tooth. But, at this point, the '07/'08 Maxima grilles sort of remind me of older Honda/Acura grilles.

I really like the '09 Maxima grille, but as soon as I saw the first photo of it, I knew immediately there would be folks who would not like it, and it is easy to understand that. It is big. It is wide. It is square. It is a questionable grille for a '4DSC'. I guess I am lucky that I like it, because I am definitely going to be driving the '09 for the next five years or so.

Could you post a night pic of the interior with the dash lights on and no flash? I'd like to see the color scheme and how the steering wheel controls light up. Thanks!

Looks sharp..Do you plan to mod anything on it?? A drop and fresh grille eventually would make it xtra beastly more than it already is.

lightonthehill,
At first the front grill was the one thing on the exterior that I was not big on. However, I think when you see the car in person it doesn't seem as "square" and "plain" as it may look in pics. It goes with the car as a whole I think, so it's grown on me. Also, it's funny cause my sister had mentioned a while back when I was looking at the '09 that she didn't like that grill. Yesterday when she was checking out my car for the first time she said something like "Hmm, actually that front grill isn't that bad. It kinda looks a bit mean." Ahhh, I love my beautiful sis. Hehe

I'll try to get a night pic without the flash later tonight.

As for any planned modding, nope I'm not a fan of that.

bb700092 ,

I agree that the radio control part of the console could be a little classier on the '09.

I love how nissan/infiniti (as well as some other brands) are making their hoods now. It looks a lot cleaner and hood flutter at highway speeds will no longer be a problem.

I totally agree. I was not sold on the grille when the first photos appeared here around March 19. But when I toured the Nissan Smyrna assembly plant two weeks later (first week in April), the grille looked smaller and lower in person, and I immediately began liking it. The day after returning from Tennessee, I attended the Atlanta Auto Show and spent several hours just circling and examining the '09 on display, and really grew to love this grille. In the four months since that time, I have never doubted that, although this grille may not 'fit' this redesigned Maxima in typically distorted photos, when seen in real-life, it is just right for this car. But I still understand those who might have preferred something smaller, perhaps as part of the 'Sport' package.

Hurricane434 - By the way, you did well to get your Maxima when you did. I spent Thursday afternoon at my dealer's (oil change, tranny fluid change, etc for my 6th gen), and spent some time perusing each of the ten '09 Maximas on his lot. One was a Winter Frost Premium, equipped exactly as I want mine. It had been unloaded Wednesday (I asked), and was locked up on the back storage lot with protective foam and plastic sheeting still on.

At 9 AM yesterday (Sunday) morning, my wife and I did some fence climbing (dealer closed Sunday morning), because I wanted her to see the exact color/configuration I was getting. There was one '09 on the elevated display rack at the street. Two on display in the sales lot. One on display in the showroom. None in the back storage lot. None in the prep building. None in the service bays. None anywhere else. SIX that were there after 5PM Thursday were gone, including the Winter frost Premium.

My dealer does not let new cars be driven home at night by employees. He says a new car customer is expecting maybe 5 miles on the odo, not 50. So it appears six were sold rather quickly. Despite the many naysayers who pause on the ORG just long enough to pan this '09, this baby is SELLING!

congrats

Hurricane, great to see your got yours and I"m sure you're thrilled to be driving it. Very nice looking in the pics and did I see the infamous "4DSC" sticker on it?

Try to get some spirited driving in when you can short of seeing blue flashing lights behind you. You definitely want to try all three driving modes offered by the CVT, that being D, DS, and manually shifting as 6 speed via the paddle shifters.

I tihink Nissan has really hit it right with this New Maxima and expect them to be hot sellers.

Dean

As requested, here are a couple pics of the interior at night with the flash turned off. This is about the best I could do.

Okay I guess I'm going to have to sound dumb and ask what does everyone exactly mean by "dropping the car"? I mean, I think I have an idea, but I'm not into modding at all.

While driving on New Hope Road headed for the Malt Shoppe today, my wife and I saw folks gathered in a driveway about a mile from our home. We slowed down to see what was happening. In the midst of the folks was a very shiny black '09 Maxima with my dealer's paper tag on the back. So far, only two folks living near me have '09 Maximas. That will change rather quickly, as Maximas are popular around here.

Hey Hurricane (or anyone else who bought an 09' Maxima). I remember when they first announced the 09' Maxima and showed that initial video right before they rolled the car out on the NY auto showroom floor that somewhere in the video they showed that when you accelerate there is a red line/light that follows the spedometer needle up and down which I thought looked really cool. So I was just wondering if that was just an effect in the video or is that feature actually in the new car? Thanks.

I asked that very same question a while back when those Stillen meet pics came out with the Tuscan Sun 09 Max. I noticed it on that car but I have not seen it on any others since. I know the Infinty M 35 has something similar to what you are describing. Who knows.

No it doesn't sound like a G35, you can hear an exhaust note while inside the cabin under hard accelaration but outside the exhaust doesn't sound anything like a G.
