Maxima vs. G37 vs. '13 Altima...HELP!
#42
Hey fellas,
I am considering buying a new car and am in a pickle among these 3 cars:
'12 Infiniti G37 Sedan Journey Premium and Navigation Packages
'12 Nissan Maxima Premium + Tech Packages
'13 Nissan Altima 3.5 SL - fully loaded
I have driven driven the Infiniti a few times and absolutely loved the way it drives; I have also driven the Maxima and loved it as well. I am stuck between these two b/c Infiniti is RWD while the Maxima is FWD. However, I like all of the features the premium packages the Maxima has to offer (dual panel sunroof, power rear sunshade, cooled drivers seat, auto-dimming drivers side view mirror etc.) - Any suggestions/thoughts?
I have not driven the new Altima, however have heard/read/watched many videos and it seems very impressive.
Your input is very much appreciated, Thank You!

Thanks a lot for your inputs guys. I test drove the Altima and it just did not work for me. As for g37 vs. the Max, I pretty much like everything about the Maxima over the G (except for the fact its a FWD); also I am getting a much better price on the maxima, running a few numbers and hopefully getting it within a week or so.
I really want to get External Ground Lighting, does anyone have it? Thoughts? Is it cheaper/possible to get it done outside the dealership?
Thank You

G37x is all wheel drive not RWD except a coupe 6Speed Manual.
Maxima has more room a bit more luxurious and that's it. If your looking for that get the Max if you don't caren about space, get the G37x much better car overall!!! Can't wait to get rid of this car for a E92 M3!

G37x is AWD Coupe or Sedan
G37 with an S at the end has the Sports package and comes in either AWD or RWD.
6speed on either sedan or coupe is only avalible on a G37S and RWD.

Forget about image on what other people think, it is your car not theirs. It boils down to which car make you happiest and which car gives you the greatest value. I drove all 3 choices and other brands and settled for the Maxima SV with sport and technology because it had a more luxurious ride than the Infinity, handled better than the Altima and currently has a $4000 Nissan end of year rebate.
PS the rear wheel drive advantage is over rated and will be apparent of the race track, but how many of us drive on a race track.

...and even more important is how many people (like myself) appreciate FWD during the winter driving conditions! That is when you drive about and count the RWD's either not on the roads or in in the ditch.

I agree.
I owned only RWD vehicles for over 35 years (from the late 1940s until I bought my 2005 Maxima in October of 1984), and have owned only FWD the 28 years since. I will never own RWD again. Having the bulk of the weight of the car (front) over the drive wheels is easily the best situation for my type of driving.

Maxima or G37?
I drove all 3 and I cal tell you why I rejected the G37:
1. Interior cabin snug
2. Small trunk
3. Not as stylish as the Maxima
4. Cost $8000 more comparbly equipped Maxima. This is due to the current $4000 Nissan rebate on the Maxima
5. Rear wheel drive not as good in snow as FWD unless you get the 4WD. There is no advantage to the RWD unless you plan to race your car or do power drifts which will kill your tires in no time
The Altima is not even in the same class as the Maxima and G37, not fun to drive and no rebates.
Bottom line the Maxima is the best value for the money in terms of perfromance and comfort.

Here in Dallas, Bankston Nissan stores are giving an add'l 4k to 4.5 k off due to market savings as they call it so 8.5 k off of the 12's. Some of those S and S limited editions are high 24's to low 25's and SV's high 20's to low 30's with that add'l savings.....Hell of a bargain.

Agree. Anyone considering buying a new Maxima before the 8th gen arrives as the 2015 model in spring 2014, should grab a 2012 now. The 2012s are being cleared out to make room for the 2013s, which have few changes from the 2012.
I don't expect the 2014s, arriving next summer, to have any changes, as the 2014 will have a short run. The 2014 run will be short because the assembly line will be converted to making the 8th gen by late January 2014 in order to have testing done, photo ops made, and have 25,000 or so cars on hand for distribution to dealers in time for the grand rollout of the 8th gen late that spring.

Wow. I know, super old post, but I had to join just to comment on this one. Maxima has CVT transmission and FWD and the G37 is the girls car? This gives me one of those short, sharp headaches. Gotta love internet opinions...
