Oil Change

Hey guys its been awhile.
I'm taking my 09' Maxima to the dealer for an oil change today. I was wondering if any of you guys do your own oil changes and what is your recommended oil. I use Mobile 1 on my 98' Durango and my wife's 02' Honda Accord and their engines are running great.
Thanks in advance,
Frank M.

I use M1 5W-30, OEM Nissan oil filter and a fresh crush washer every 4-5k miles. Drain plug is torqued to exactly 25 ft/lbs.

Yes, I am a Big Shot, and nothing is too good for my baby.

Is it any less of a mess pulling the wheel off? I don't take off the wheel and the filter pissess all over the place.

Ya that filter is a pisser. I usually take off the wheel to make it easy to put something under the filter and the sub frame and have plenty of room for clean up.

I haven't changed my own oil on the Maxima yet but do on my Mustang. That too has a oil filter that will spray all over and make a big mess. One trick I read about is to wrap either a plastic grocery bag or large ziploc around the filter as you unscrew it. Any oil left or in the filter will pour into the bag instead of all over the undercarriage. I do this and it really helps to control the mess.

Aluminum foil wrapped around the frame keeps it clean when you remove the filter. A magnet on the frame is used to get the filter upside down to get all the oil out. Rhino ramps makes the pan and filter easy to get to.

Mobil 1 5-30 every 5000 miles.

I use full synthetic 5w-30 Valvoline oil. It is used by both Nissan and Goodyear service centers by my house. I switched to the full synthetic after about 50k. Before that I used Valvoline conventional oil and my car ran fine.
