A/C amb sensor, where is it???

My 2000 max ambient temp button reads as -22 F. because of this, my AC will not cool the car becasue it thinks that it is -22F. Where can i find the sensor for the temp button or how do I reset the temp?

thanks

Although I have a 2000 I30, I think the location is the same in the 2000 Maxima. The ambient temp sensor for the I30 is located just to the right of the gauge cluster. If you look at your cluster, you should see a small vent on the right side of the black frame that surrounds the cluster. It is below the TCS button (or at least where the button should be if you don't have one). Behind this vent is a plastic tube that leads to the ambient sensor. You will have to remove the dash in order to get at it.

Again, this is where the ambient sensor is located on the 2000 I30.

Hope this helps!

Yeah, there is a sensor behind the gauge cluster trim, to the right of the steering wheel where the TCS button is (if you happen to have one). Sometimes, it gets clog with dust and filth. You don't have to take the trim off. Just get some compressed air and spray lightly with air. This will remove the dust from the sensor giving it an accurate reading for inside car temperature. And for the record, the ambient temperature reading on the display is the "outside" temperature reading, not the inside. Actually, the ambient temp sensor is located outside the car, inside the front bumper near the bottom of the radiator. Also, there is a way to extract error codes and readings from the A/C unit. I remember reading it somewhere here on the .org (maybe a sticky)? Maybe someone can chime in and help? If that doesn't work, you might have to take a trip to the dealer and have them hook up their famous CONSULT tool. Good luck!

Yes, MIXXMAX is right - I stand corrected. The ambient sensor is located on the front bumper. What I was reffering to is actually called the in-vehicle sensor, which is probably still what you need to fix. The climate control system cools/heats the car to the temp you select and uses the in-vehicle sensor to determine when that temp has been reached.

One other thing to note is that if you select the AUTO button on the climate control and then set the temp for the lowest setting (65 degrees on the 2000s), the A/c should pump out cold air no matter what the temp is inside the car. If you do this and you are still not getting cold air, the sensor may not be your only problem.

Attached below is a link to the diagnosis process that MIXMAXX mentioned. I have found it to be quite helpful.

facing car, left side. in car, right side. it's mounted on the frame BEHIND the bumper. really easy to see. seriously, no way you can miss it if you look.

my outside temp always reads about 2 degrees C higher. Do I need to replace the outside sensor to fix this?

I'm honestly not sure, but there are a number of reasons that the temp may be off. Heat from the engine, heat from the car sitting idle in the sun, etc. I've always found that my AMB temp is higher than it should be just after I start the car after its has been baking in the sun.

It's not on the bumper. It's mounted on the bottom of the radiator and A/C condensor. Look thru the bottom of the bumper on the left side and you'll see it.
