P1400 EGRC code gone on my 95 ecu swap!!!! YAY!!!

What is going on orgers.. I just wanted to post some finding I found when I did my ecu swap from a 99 to a 95 in my cali spec emissions car.
Now, I used whlimi's excellent writeup he did http://forums.maxima.org/4th-generat...p-success.html. It was followed to the letter. One of the codes I got was the P1400 or EGRC Solenoid Valve. This was obvious since the EGR design in the 99 cali is different from previous models.
As I was looking through the FSM of the 99 as well as some of the threads regarding the code P1400, I came across the Swirl Control Solenoid valve. It caught my attention because it looked very simmilar to the EGRC solenoid valve that the 95 ECU uses.
Here is a pic of the Swirl Control Valve

Here is the pic of the EGRC solenoid valve.

They look similar Right?
I even looked at the wiring setup for both. I noticed that they are both in the fuse block number (17) and that they use the same type of connector (circled in red). As I was reading throught for the operation, diagnosis etc, they both read the battery voltage and they both work on a vacuum design.

So this lead me to move the light blue/yellow (L/Y) cable on my 99 in pin 71 over to pin 103 in the 95 ECU. The pin on 71 was smaller so I had to use the pin from 117 (fuel pump wire) which was cut in the previous step in the ecu swap.
I checked this morning and NO P1400.....
I also passed emissions as well...

Let me know what you guys think...

Did you use an ecu with the same type of transmission? I have a 99 with some emissions codes because I put an engine from a 95 in it and left all else alone, so there are some things which arent connected because th 95 motor doesnt have them. However, I have a 95 auto max as well and was pondering the swap but really don't want any lights on for a mismatch tranny either.

I used a 95 ecu manual and I have a manual. As long as you put everything that was on the 99 onto the 95, you should be ok. The biggest thing would be definitely be the EGR.

I think the only issue you may get putting an auto ecu in a manual is a slightly higher rpm?? Not sure if it throws a code, it probably does.

Now I just gotta get either a 95 manual tranny ecu or a 96-98 purge valve set up to get rid of P0443, since I'm running a 98 fed manual tranny ecu in a 99 cali car :/

good write up was just going through fsm i also have a 95 ecu in my 99 since the nats system went haywire also did ever get the code for the o2 sensor if so how did you get rid of it

Still working on the O2 code. I remember reading something being about the way it is grounded... I will look at it sometime when I get a chance.

I've switched the pins on the 02 sensor added o2 simulator ill see what happens next 100 miles of driving of the code comes back

I have not... I checked and I have not gotten the P1400. You should check continuity between the wires see what it reads...

edit... I am guessing you were referring to O2 code. My mistake...

Interesting find! Good work, I have a 99 fed 5spd, with the vq35de swap, not completely wired up yet, and If I get a 95 ecu I'll be trying this one!

yes the o2 sensor kind of figured out the problem just might have to buy the o2 sensor in the cat im using simulator from my lc-1 innovate motor sports what ive read from fsm the volt range needs to be 0.0-2.2 so i programed the lc-1 to that range lets see what happens

The 95-97 voltage is 0.0-1.0 99,s is 0.0-2.2 mv this is why the code keeps piping up you .have to convert (,change) the o2 to 95-96

Or throw in a resistor? I might try that resistors are cheap at RadioShack and even cheaper when my bro works there and can get me a discount lol

I don't think it would work because a resistor cant imulate change in voltages remember the range 0-2.2 mv and its for monitoring the cat so the only route is to change the sensor or try to get the innovate lc-1 to work which I'm trying to but its tricky

Hmm.. good luck man.

You know what's really strange. I let my brother use my car for him to go to work since I was out of town yesterday, came back and I had no CEL's. I asked my bro if he had cleared the codes ( I don't think he knows how) and he said no.

I had P0136 O2 and another code related to the O2s as well as a knock sensor code. I checked to see if the bulb was burnt out but no its fully functional. I will check to see if any ghost codes are present (possibly knock sensor?) and report back...

same here my check engine light been on for months but going to try switching the ground when i put the proper sensor in this weekend you need to get a 95 ecu produced from 8-95 so you wont have the code for fuel pump, purge valve ect...........

Ok guys think ive solved the po136 code for people running 95 ecm in a 99 cali spec unpon reading the fsm for 99 cali spec you dont need to switch pin 107 to 105 because there are 2 sensors at 107 and 105 that monitor front and rear banks, so what i did i just switched the signal wire around moving pin 57 to 56 and 56 to 57 since thursday sept 13th ive driven the car about 80 miles and at least 10 driving cycles so far no ghost codes of any kind ill keep every one posted

I know this is an old post but to solve the o2 CEL issue did you swap to a 3 wire 95 o2 sensor? I know you switched pin 56 and 57 as well.

I heard if using a 95 ecu in a 97 it would throw a code because 97 o2 sensor is a 4 wire and the 95 o2 sensor is a 3 wire.

I'm need to do the 95 ecu swap because I'm going with Nistune and don't want any CEL for emissions.

I to am late on this post but I have a 99 cali spec that I'm about to swap in a 01 I30 DEK engine, and I'd like to use a 95 ECU as well. I also plan to go Nistune with my 95 ECU. Thing is This engine appears NOT to have EGR! There is a block off plate. So I would like to keep my 99 harness, and be able to address the EGR first with my 99 ECU. While I send he 95 ECU off to Nistune. Once I get no codes, then I would like to repin my harness for my early 95 5speed ECU (yes I'm rubbing it in), and eliminate EVAP, SWIRL, fix O2 SENSOR iSSue, and what ever else, with no codes.

If anyone has any specific info on my swap as far as 01 I30 DEK in my 99 Cali spec, please chime in. Not sure if I my have injector clip issues. ANYONE?

Most of the dek's did not come with egr.

Well the cali egr is a stepper motor and is electronic instead of vacuum like the previous generations.. If you leave it plugged in along with the egr temp sensor you should not get any codes. I did not get these codes when I did my 3.5 swap and I just left them plugged in.

When you swap to the 95 ecu, just leave the egr temp sensor plugged in preferably near the exhaust manifold and rewire the swirl control valve as I explained along with everything else needed for a 95 ecu and you should not get an egr code. I did not touch the EVAP. I just left it as is and just hooked up the vacuum line to the engine.

For the oxygen sensor, you'll most likely have to use the 3 wire sensor so you don't get the code. I STILL haven't addressed this but will after I finish my 6speed swap.

As far as doing a dek swap, I believe someone did a detailed writeup/ how to on here. Do a quick search on the org or google and it should pop up. I believe it is a sticky now..

Good luck.
