front mount camera on a SL?
does anyone know if the wiring already exists on the SL & SR that you could mount a front camera like the Plat.? I would assume that Nissan used a standard wiring harness for all of the models. and just add on the options as the car goes down the line. I see there are front mount cameras online for about $25....would be great if I could figure out what to connect it too? we already have the camera options in the raido so I would assume its pretty simple install if we knew what they connected into to make it work?
so if any of you are messing arounnd with your Plat. Model and notice what the front camera is connected to please let me know.........Thanks!

no was waiting for the service manual to come out. althought I did see a plat. front bumper for sale with a camera installed in it ......so that confirms my thoughts it just a plug and play installation.

I saw someone post the manual last week. I'll try to find it and link it if someone doesn't beat me to it. Any luck on finding the front camera harness?

Pages 273 - 276, assuming the around view monitor control unit will not be present on models other than Platinum.

My experience comes from Honda, where each car is wired specifically for the features that come with the car and nothing more.
As such, I severely doubt you can plug-n-play separate components from the higher end version into more basic models.
Additionally, the additional features may require specific activation or programming with Nissan tech computer.
I would love to be proven wrong on this, but with current level of automation and computerization, there is simply no reason for Auto company to spent even 1 more cent on producing the vehicle than absolutely necessary.
To illustrate my point, go onto any nissan parts online site and search for "harness".
Nissan's parts are a pain to identify, compared with Honda, but nevertheless, set your car as SL, find main harness, write down the part number.
Then repeat for Platinum.

The way I interpret the manual, it looks like the around view control unit when wired up and receives signals from the cameras creates the around view image and sends to the AV display. It seems feasible that with the AV control unit installed and cameras installed, it should send signal to monitor. Don't know if this correlates, but My g37 didn't come with paddle shifters, but it was pre wired for it. All I had to do was connect to the existing wiring harness that was wrapped up in the steering column.

I would assume that it would be much cheaper for Nissan to manufacture every wiring harness to be the same rather than having multiple wiring harnesses. But if I'm not mistaken, wouldn't you also have to replace the side view mirrors as well to get the camera underneath?

Not to hijack this thread but I too was wondering if the paddle shifters could be retro fitted to the Platinum. I really liked them on my 2010

It worked on my 2012 g37. The car was prewired... I just had to purchase the parts and plug and play. The harness/connectors were there and wrapped. Just unwrapped them and plugged in the paddle shifters.
I agree with the prior thread, that it just takes too much effort to make multiple harnesses. All my BMW's were the same way as well. At least they will flash the ecu to enable any add-ons after the car was built. My only questions with this is if Nissan would have to enable to module/feature. Does anyone know or have any info about Nissan Consult 4 software for our vehicles?
