Maxima 2017
Anybody has bought Maxima 2017? People were complaining about the leather seat of platinium model compared to SL model. I was wondering if the problem still insists?

Hm. I drove both the SL and Platinum, and took the Platinum home. I really like the feel of the leather in the 2016 Platinum. Any links to the downsides?

I read about it here in one of the forums. I will try to find it. They were saying they like the SL leather better than Platinum but no issue with it.

Looks like one person made a negative comment. It's just his/her opinion. I haven't heard anyone else complain about the leather. So I don't think there is any problem to speak of. As with all things, you have to form your opinion.

I felt like I got a decent deal on it. I didn't have much wiggle room being that I got the first 2017 on the lot. But I was able to talk them down some. You will definitely get a better deal on the 2016 model years or if you wait a little later in the year for dealers to be a little flexible on the prices on the 2017 model years. However, I held out for Apple CarPlay with this model. Plus my previous car was on that downhill slope to the junk yard.

The posters on forums spread a wealth of misinformation at times.

That car is awesome. That color is great in person too - saw it on the lot and was surprised how cool it is.
What kind of rate did you get on the financing if you financed it being a 2017 not a 2016? Also why did you choose a 2017 vs the 2016?

I'm a Maxima guy through and through, but it bothers me more than it probably should that the new Accord has a better rear end than the new Maxima and it's not even close! Not even on the same playing field. I dunno. Nissan always pushes the envelope when it comes to their forward-thinking design, which is great, but it just doesn't make any sense to me to see such a staid, rear-end design on the Maxima.

Stop comparing the Max to the Accord hehe, as the Altima competes quite well with the Accord......Honda MFG corps comparable which has been since the 5th gen Max for a fact, maybe even 4th gen has been the TL now known as the TLX :-).

Say what you will, but this car is sharp, aggressive and eye catching, front & back.
Don't get me wrong; I like how the 8th Gen Max looks from the back at nighttime with the LED bars lit-up and whatnot; yes, it looks VERY sharp, but in daylight? Not so much.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Nissan do something different with the tail lights when they do a mid-generational refresh, a-la the 7th Gen Max tail light refresh on the 2012+ models.

My son drives a new Accord Touring with all the bells and whistles, and it is a very loaded car for which he paid well over $30K (special order 20" chrome Accord wheels, special tires, etc), and yet, when I showed up at his house with my 2016 Maxima last September, he immediately said he liked the looks of my Maxima more than his Accord Touring. As far as appearance, that is strictly in the eye of the beholder. I prefer the look of the rear of my Maxima to the rear of his Accord (which does look nice). Of course I had a black rear valence diffuser with chrome bars added to my silver Maxima, and that fairly significantly changes the look of the rear. I know I get nice comments on the look of the rear (and the rest) of my car. But, again, everyone has a slightly different taste.
As to other viewing angles of these two cars, I prefer the interior, as well as the front and side views of the Maxima over the Accord. Just a personal preference.

No spoiler. I keep looking and thinking, but am not sure I like the look better with a spoiler. I have added 1" wide black rubber molding around all four wheel wells, covered everything silver that was showing inside the wheel wells with black vinyl, and installed Nissan black splash guards on my silver Platinum. Those all tie in with the black valence diffuser. I am considering adding black molding along the top edge of the quarter panels, but will need to try a piece before actually installing. When I finish, I will throw a photo up so everyone can either ooh and ahhh or begin regurgitating onto their keyboard.

I used to work in the paint shop of automobile factory and I know how difficult is to do silver. In general, silver has better quality than white. Very tiny defects show easily on silver so the company should spend more time on it than white. Today most of the cars have clear coat on top of top coat and they last pretty long. I terms of aesthetic, I prefer white better than silver specially for Maxima with black moon-roof.

Has anyone test driven other cars (eg: A4, C Class, Q50) and compared to the new Maxima and if so, what are your thoughts? I know that the 2017 A4 and Maxima both have Apple CarPlay, which is one of the features I am looking for in a new car.

I purchased a 2016 SR and I love it. I just purchased a 2016 Mercedes CLA250 and she like it but I don't like the power band. It is sluggish at the beginning. We really liked the A4 but the cost factor on it was crazy. It did drive nice but the Maxima has a great power band which in my opinion is better than the others.

I have gone back and forth with the SR, platinum and SL- but the price is gonna be the decision maker. Theres a leftover black/charcoal platinum- not my first choice- wanted a silver or white SL- but the price is right and that 0% for 72 might seal the deal.
