Foam insulation

Hey guys,

The other day I went to Home Depot and came across this insulation foam in a can that expands. I was wondering if this can be used for sound deadening. I have mat layed on my trunk lid and license plate area, but when the bass hirs hard I could hear my panels vibrate. I been looking into applying more mat, but I'm trying to keep the car as light as possible. Has anyone ever tried this foam stuff?

Be careful with it. If you spray too much of it into the panels and it expands, it will pop the welds on the panels causing even more issues. I don't recommend using this product to eliminate unwanted panel vibrations.

Make sure you identify exactly where the noises are coming from before you decide what to do about it. I have put over 240sq ft of deadener in my car and still have rattles. The process takes time.

I see your point. I have noticed the noise coming from the bumper and lid. I just hate to know that if I'm bumping people outside hear my car rattle like a cheap POS. Dampening mat is the other route to go, but I like to take the car to the track every now and then and would hate to have 50 lbs + of extra weight due to dynamat. I'm also working on a quick release audio setup so that I can easily remove the subs and amp in a snap.

I will consider adding a little foam around the latch where the lid closes.

you can use foam other than expanding for those types of rattles, but if lighweight is your goal then rattles are something you might have to live with.

I've heard of a few people spraying that insulator into their spoiler or trunk lid to stop the rattles. I haven't tried it though.

I guess I'll give a shot this weekend since I have two cans at home. I'll spray a little and see if it makes a difference.

u might be better off packing the spaces with poly fill, i dunno but i would be scared of ur body panels bolging out from the pressure of the foam, as mentioned earlier
