I keep hearing good things about Royal Purple but am leaning toward Mobil 1.

I've used AMSOIL ATF for nearly 20 years with outstanding results...and the box is labeled as meeting Nissan-matic D in addition to many other specs.

Actually Nissan Matic D is the best not from the standpoint of fluid quality but from the standpoint of being designed for the tranny. Remember, all these companies spend millions of dollars to get the right syrup for a specific transmission. Why is the world would they spend all this money if all of us can get multi-vehicle ATFs like Amsoil or OTC fluids that meet the spec but not exactly.

I use Chevron ATF but if I could bite my tongue and pick up NissanMatic for $4 etc, I would do it gladly -- but then I prefer to flush every 30K miles with OTC ATF that stick with OEM fluids for 60K miles.

Also, I prefer to stay away from ATFs that meet a ton of specs like Amsoil or Mobil1 i.e stay away from multi-formulation ATFs!!!

Those who use Nissan Matic "D", do you use Amsoil engine oil? I use mobile one synthetic, so should I use Mobile's ATF as well, or is Nissan Matic "D" a better choice?

For applications recommending Nissan-matic D, Nissan also lists Dextron III as an alternative. AMSOIL ATF meets/exceeds both specs, which are probably very close if not the same. AMSOIL and Mobil-1 ATF are proven synthetic fluids and will generally outperform petroleum fluids of the same service classification. The performance advantage will widen as the operating conditions become more severe (hot, cold, towing). As I stated in a post above, I have used the product in a variety of applications for ~20 years and sell a lot of it to our members.

I also happen use AMSOIL engine oil, but there is no correlation between the brand of engine oil you use and the ATF. If you are happy with Mobil-1 engine oil, you will probably be happy with their D-III ATF as well...but there's no requirement that you use the same brand.
