What car did you drive before the maxima?
#602
I drove a 89 CRX wich I still have. I picked up my Max while I was building the motor for my CRX. I always liked the maximas but I wouldn't buy one unless it was stick. I came across mine on the way from work ( in a car that I was borrowing ) and saw a 02 maxima with 6 speed stickered to the windshield. since I already did some research on it I knew it was a VQ35 model so I got it the next week. plus since I drove a tow truck I was noticing that I never tow any maximas unless they were wrecked , had multiple flats or bad alternator....

one small step for man
drove a 1988 5.0 mustang and it was bad ***. That thing could take an all day long beating and get going the next day.... really loved it.
then i add a 96 maxima... most reliable car i ever own. the had a sir civic and hated it. Then bought a wrx that blew up, and finally went back to a 2002 se manual!

My first car was a 1985 white Buick Century. My grandmother bought it for me in 1989. I kept it for almost 5 years, but it was a MONEY PIT. Even the Buick dealer told me to get rid of it, so that's what I did and I purchased a THIRD generation Maxima ('93-leftover) in the summer of 1994. That was the BEST year of my life!

Before my I35 I had 96 eagle talon tsi awd. A 2g dsm if you will. I still troll on dsmtuners.com every now & then. It was a fun car: 2.3 stroker, fp green, 3" turbo back exhaust, fmic, ect.....It was just a money pit & I couldn't keep up anymore lol. I miss that thing tho, especially in the winter!

^Hey! Hows your i35 running!? Did you really do all the mods listed in your ownership or bought it partially modded. If all listed mods are yours... (i know of few mods recently) then thats a decent growing list in a years time frame after joining the .org!

Yea I bought my I35 bone stock last summer. I tried to stick to the "mod path" suspension THEN engine. Did the brakes first then saved up for some coilovers. The engine mods I did a few weekends ago while changing the sparkplugs. djfrestyl installed my coilovers.

The Genealogy of Vehicles according to AnsonJ:
In the beginning there were the Parents. And they deemed that AnsonJ could use their car with their permission and provided they did not need it: This was usually a 1986 Oldsmobile Cutlas Ciera or a 1986 Chevrolet Caprice Classic. In these dark times AnsonJ was reminded that he could always use his 12 speed Murray bicycle if these choices were not acceptable.
As AnsonJ got older and graduated High School, the parents bought a brand new 1992 Buick LeSabre and told him that he could have use of the 1988 Oldsmobile Eighty Eight while going to college.
After the College years and into a few years of working, AnsonJ decided that he would save up and buy his own car. His first choice was to order a brand new black 1996 Chevrolet Monte Carlo LS. This car was a beautiful car. This car was the envy of young males everywhere. This car was a total pile of dung from day one. After Chevrolet replaced under warranty several small trim items, repainted the front bumper twice(from peeling paint) and replaced the transmission under warranty, the unthinkable happened. AnsonJ married the dumbest person to walk the earth. This unholy union did produce a fine son however, who not only looked just like his father, but also did not inherit the unbelievable stupidity of his mother.
And in these horrible times of being married to a cheating *****, AnsonJ traded down to a 1987 Mercury Grand Marquis to help meet bills. And since the Monte Carlo was a pile of dung with 80,000 miles on it and ABS problems in addition to more stuff breaking in the interior, AnsonJ took solace in the fact that the Mercury had all working parts and no issues other than burning oil.
Just before the cheating ***** left, the Mercury was replaced by a 1994 Oldsmobile 88 Royale with low mileage. This car was awesome. This car was everything that the Monte Carlo was not: Reliable. well built. It was now deemed that AnsonJ needed a second vehicle, one that had a little more versatility than the Oldsmobile, so AnsonJ added a 1997 Ford Ranger.
As the Gloom and despair lifted from the days of cheating ******, AnsonJ met and married a wonderful girl from work. She brought a 1994 Dodge Intrepid to the garage. the Intrepid was possessed. it would stumble and cut out on the highway. the new wife was not pleased with this. So AnsonJ let her have the Oldsmobile and took over the Intrepid, since AnsonJ did not do the city driving that his wife did. And at this time AnsonJ was going back to school to get a degree in CIS, while the wife worked 2 hours away. The Intrepid seemed to like AnsonJ's driving style better than his wifes, as the possession left the car and only came back once in the 8 years that he had the car. And not that AnsonJ treated this car with deep respect, he tended to drive it like he stole it and even once almost sunk it in a river crossing by the wife's parents house. ended up bailing 6 inches of water out of the floorboards...
School ended, and AnsonJ and his wife moved to the Indianapolis area to take up a new job. Times were good, the Oldsmobile was replaced with a brand new 2009 Dodge charger with unlimited powertrain warranty. The Intrepid continued to be teh daily driver for AnsonJ with biweekly trips back to Illinois to pick up his son for visitation rights. The Ranger was put on the low mileage plan and used sparingly.
and in 2012, it happened. what nearly 200,000 miles could not do, what nearly sinking it in a river could not do, Even the Mighty Salt trucks of Indiana/ Indianapolis and Fishers could not do (although they tried their level best and to be honest probably would have done it given enough time) Some bozo in a Chevy Cavalier that did not know the proper use of a round about did it. He killed the Intrepid. And even then, with the front bumper cover held on by one bolt and the passenger side fender smashed, the Intrepid drove away under its own power.
The Intrepid was then replaced with the 2004 Maxima. The Maxima is hands down the nicest and most well equiped car that AnsonJ has ever owned. The wife hates it, but AnsonJ is not bothered, that means she won't drive it both sons (the first one from cheating ***** and the new one who also has AnsonJ's looks but his wifes stubborness and temper) love the Maxima.
So now the automotive roster retains these three vehicles:
2009 Dodge Charger
2004 Nissan Maxima
1997 Ford Ranger Supercab 4wd

I'll avoid the very first one...
I used to drive a 2002 Mazda Protege5 before I got my Maxima, the damn thing was like a go-cart. It was a super sexy red and it was clean enough to eat off of at any given time! I wanted to buy a Jeep so I had a deal set up and sold the MP5, only to have the seller back out last minute . That right there sums up how I met my Maxima, and so far it's better in every way except looks & handling!

'01 Z24 Cavalier <> '02 Maxima GLE
I've had my '02 Maxima for about 2 years now, prior to that I had an '01 Cavalier Z24 for about 7 years, and before that a '98 Altima for about 3 years. The Maxima is the fastest of course, but I miss the handling on the Cavi - I installed KYB struts on all 4 corners and the handling was pretty awesome on that car. But luvv the Maxima for sheer straight line speed!

1991 240sx fastback
I loved my 240 especially when i had the sr20 swap but its tragic ending happened due to an incompetent mechanic that lied about replacing old broken stock engine mounts for poly mounts..... The engine flipped at a show

not my pics but pics are fun so why not
late 80s honda accord i drove for a year when my sister went to college
inherited a 3rd gen (90 5sp SE) when dad bought his 5th. drove this thing around a while. loved it
mine didn't have a bigass dent tho
sold the 3rd gen when little **** kept breaking and moved to a 2nd gen altima (00 5sp gxe). was a slight downgrade in features but the power was similar to the 10 year older max. this picture actually was my car
rear ended someone (oops). i mean some jerk brake checked me and totaled the altima. took the payout and went carless for a year or so (used work truck) and then bought dads 5th gen when he decided to upgrade. since this is about past cars i'm not going to post the current one.

The Maxima is the "Tamest" Vehicle I have owned. Saving up for a GTR and wanted a nice classy car I wouldn't spend too much money on while I do so. (Had to buy wheels, have had them for about a year, have a splitter and splash guards adding shortly)
Below are my recent cars.
2001 Corvette Z06 - Heads Cam Intake Wheels lowered exhaust etc.
1998 Mustang Cobra - Supercharged - Suspension - Wheels basically everything
2004 Infiniti G35 Coupe 6MT - Aero kit with spoiler - Intake (took a break from racing cars lol)
1996 Mustang Cobra - Wheels - Suspension - exhaust - bolt ons
1998 Mitsubishi Exclipse GSX awd Turbo - Motor swap - upgraded turbo, intercooler w/ piping fuel etc
