Why are there more Gen 6 than Gen 4 & 5 here?

Why are there more Gen 6 than Gen 4 & 5 here?
Maxima numbers have soared near University of Waterloo & Laurier area but it's like all Gen 6.
I randomly asked a student in one of the UW parking lots who was getting into a Gen 6 if he knew what model I was driving. He thought it was a TOYOTA, so I showed him the Nissan badge but he was still stumped. Idiot thought it was Altima or discontinued Nissan car.
Where are all the gen 4 & 5 Maximas ?

Here, as in Canaduh?
It's because you crazy canucks are too stupid to realize that the 4th and 5th gens are better cars. j/k
Seriously though, I'm sure rust is one possible reason. Another reason is the resale value of Nissans isn't the best, so people tend to buy the newest year they can afford. 6th gens are getting pretty cheap now. I'm sure they're are other reasons as well.

The truth is that most folks tend to drive vehicles that are less than ten years old, and that eliminates all Maximas older than gen 6.
This is not saying that gens 6 and 7 are better than gens 5 and 6. It is simply saying that most gen 5 and 6 Maximas have over a hundred thousand miles on them (many over TWO hundred thousand), and folks that are not Maxima fanatics understand that cars tend to need more attention as they age.
When we add in the fact many college kids end up with the family car that was replaced with a new car in recent years, it makes sense that there would be lots of 6th gens around college campuses.

People thinks it's a Toyota or ricey . But the gen 6 is considered "nice"
edit - Not fair that Nissan doesn't have decent rep for average joe... Students see a kid driving like a 90s Subaru and everyone automatically thinks "WOW." ><

5.5gen > 5th gen > 4th gen > 3rd gen > 7th gen > 6.5 gen > 6th gen
I've driven every single one, and IMO that's a much more accurate list.
BTW george_I have a set of maxima_se badges laying around that I took off my car, you can have em if you want for the SEXIMA mod.

I have a completely different reason. It may be the same as here in Mexico. There are virtually no Maximas after Gen IV. Why? Simple: the Altima 3.5 became available, offering similar features in a cheaper vehicle. It may even be lighter; do the Maxima Gen V and VI cars have aluminium suspension, boot, and bonnet components?

These people care about status and newer cars in general. Ive almost never seen a nice modded maxima in my area, I think one time but that dude was slammed on cut coils and was riding slow as fkuc, at least looked good lol

I'm not sure how this relates to the original question, but I wanted to put this out there for the world to read

Went to Cambridge a bit this week and saw a ton of Maximas there... Imo it's more ghetto than KW so maybe it's the budget baller car?
- Parked next to a light brown Gen 5 when I went to get some quick food and it turned out to be owned by a older woman.
- Drove by a silver gen 5 with awful tint (it was purple) and the guy was doing the gangster lean. (EMBARRASSING)
- Drove by a black Gen 6 driven by a non-white dude doing the gangster lean & with the big hat. (I thought he looked like a idiot)

Werd. Everywhere I turn, I see 5th gen Maximas. It's insane! I drive 45 minutes out to my mechanic in Long Island just because he used to wrench especially on Maxima's back in the day.

^ NYC is just known for Maximas, many of em out there..I've always wondered why that is
I remember being in my late teens when the 5th gens came out, living on 80th street n 5th ave in Brooklyn at the time, there was bout 5 new Maxima owners on my block alone, my neighbor even had a gray 5th gen that we used to hotbox while sitting parked in front of the house.

I think I mentioned it before but where I am, almost all Maxima owners are old people I actually see quite a few though, mine's the best taken care of and stands out! Old people really just stop caring and let their cars go... There is a severely abused and neglected 5th gen GXE near my place (hurts to look at, it's that bad).
I'm genuinely surprised at the lack of young people driving Maxima's up here, it's depressing.

^^ Thats so surprising you say that...
Because I pretty much never see an old person in a Maxima..Unless its a 3rd gen, like my one neighbor who got a maroon 3rd gen in great shape, all stock, drives it once a month it seems..
I also see a blue 3rd gen in nice shape around here, young male driver, big chrome 20" wheels and puke in my mouth...
I see a bunch of 4th gens, all of em look like *** and in bad shape, but they run...
I see a few 5th gens, Usually when I park next to them it makes their car look like it came out the dumpster...
Few 6th gens also, usually driven by 30-40yr olds going to work, who clearly know nothing about Maximas and happy they got a deal on a 6th gen...and they think they're fast and always try me when Im around...I politely allow them the chance to find out otherwise lolz

I don't own a Nissan anymore but I'm always curious as to how the Maxima community is holding up. 4th gen> all, but I'm biased because I owned one. Crazy to think that particular generation is approaching close to a 20th anniversary depending on which release you had.
It's all age/depreciation and the availability of parts especially aftermarket (although if you do need a bumper or spoiler, check my thread, shameless promo )
Good to see the select few "celebrities" still have their cars in prime condition too. Happy Halloween!

Makes people wonder all the time about the car. Its a true sleeper, too.
And best part is when another 5th gen appears next to yours and looks like sh*t, makes you feel accomplished and proud of the work u did on your whip...
^^ BTW george_those big rims on 6th gens in low income areas = black dudes in the ghetto....just come out and say it!! Dont make me think it, and not say it..lolz

I don't want to be racist
And nice Gen 5 compared to mine, I feel embarrassed because people are thinking to themselves what a waste of money... And the no trunk emblem automatically triggers fast and furious type movie thoughts for most folk.

George...why do you care what people think? And anyway, ur gen5 looked pretty good from what I remember.
I agree on the fast n furious thoughts tho...and speaking of waste of money...I recently had a fast n furious civic hatch basically challenging me to race... now thats a waste of money

I graduated HS 2 years ago and from what I remember, there were plenty of 4th, 5.5 and 6 gens with the majority of Maxis being 5th gens. Maximas were apparently popular in our school because they "had the same engine as the Z". I loved owning my 4th gen because everything was so easy to work on. I made sure it had all the factory accessories hahaha.
Out for breakfast with friends:
It was eventually totaled by my little brother.
Miss her!
Edit: Oh yeah, the point of this is that I moved up to a blue 6th gen (2004 SE with Frost leather). I actually got it for dirt cheap at an auction and guess what two problems I ran into? Yup, a new tranny and engine later and she's running fine so far. I guess they're many 6th gens here because they've lost their value because of the myriad of problems they're prone to. With that said, I'm gonna hope the '04 lasts until I graduate, then move up to an '09/'11 or hopefully the '16 when dealers are willing to budge.

Well this is surprising. When I mean old, I'm talking like 65-90... white hair don't care type of people.
I've seen a younger girl driving a 5th gen, and a few other guys.. but that's about it! 90% old people

Surely it depends greatly on the area.

"Old people really just stop caring and let their cars go"
What crap. I'm old and I am bringing my car back to showroom condition. Just about to add a 6-row tranny cooler. Now why a tranny cooler? Yep, the way I drive in the mountains, my car needs it.

I see your point but grandma doesn't care

My rusty muff is starting to get a little bit loud, and my fuel economy took a suicide dive when I put on the 17" SE rims. I'll finish off the tank and see what it dropped to from 23.5 MPG I'm guessing 12-15 the way things are going.
