Automatic Transmision Control Module

Hi again all, Just put in a new #3 coil and new plugs and my 02 I35 now purrs like a kitten. Cleared the codes and the chk eng lite is staying out. Thanks for the help.

I now have a new problem. Check engine light is not on. But I am getting an intermittant issue in that while sitting at a light i hit the accelerator pedal and nothing happens then all of a sudden the rpms will start to rise slowly then the trans engages and she takes off. Then for a day or two shes fine then it will happen again. Very very odd. She also isn't tripping any codes ???????

Is the automatic transmision control module going out ????? or is there a sensor for the accelerator pedal ?????

Has anyone else had this problem ? Thanks for the help, Ron

Speed Sensor

Could it be the Variable Speed Sensor That I've read a few posts about ? Thanks

I don't really know what the problem might be. If the rpm's aren't picking up, I doubt if it is a transmission problem. The VSS seems very unlikely also as you can remove the vss and the car will drive normally except for the check engine light and no speedo.

It could have something to do with the throttle, like maybe the throttle servo is going bad, but I have never encountered something like that.

did you check if there are any pending codes? If its intermittent then it might not happen often enough to trigger the check engine light but the codes might still be stored in the computer. If you can, drive around with the scanner hooked up and see what registers when the car starts acting up.

It is possible to have a bad TCM, not very common but is still possible. I had a pad tcm on an altima once that gave me some really strange affects.

Hi Dennismik, What do think about just replacing the throttle body with a remanufactured unit ? Thanks, Ron

Hi NSNmike, I originally had a misfire on 3 code and codes for both downstream o2's. Put in a new coil and plugs then had the codes cleared. Run's super smooth now. But the chk eng lite hasn't come on again yet. Then this issue popped up. very weird acts like the gas pedal's not hooked up then all of a sudden it slowly starts to respond then tranny kicks in and makes the tires squeal.

Some of the prior posts I've read mention the vss and/or the speed sensor being bad. The trans shifts to good when working for needing a rebuild. The way it acts. I know it's something electronic. BUT with no chk eng lite tripping it's leavin me guessing. Plus it's intermittent but relatively consitant. If that makes sense ? Maybe a reman throttle body ?

I'll have to see if I can borrow the scanner and drive with it hooked up ?

I don't think that would do anything. I would guess at the throttle control motor or the throttle position sensor or the accelerator pedal position sensor as being the problem. And the MAF can do strange things.
