2003 i35 Great Fuel Mileage

I acquired this 2003 i35 last August with 48,000 miles showing on the odometer. The car had been sitting for the better part of four years without having been driven. I had to replace a frozen brake rotor, replace a bad tire, and tend to normal maintenance items, oil, a bad bracket on the exhaust system, etc.

More recently, the gas gauge on the instrument cluster acted up (would read zero, then move to 3:00 o'clock to collide with the temp gauge needle, then read accurately, but bounce around when going over bumps, etc.).

Only option was to replace the cluster.

Other than that, the car has been fine.

Yesterday, had to drive from the Philly Area through New York to the Canadian border and back. Roughly, 12 hours of driving. It's almost all highway, and the mpg computer registered between 30.9 and 32 mpg for the entire trip.

Even adjusted for what I read is an optimistic readout from this computer, it still equates to about 29 mpg, and my fuel purchases confirm that.

The car, as always, ran smooth as a whistle, and was a pleasure to drive.

I am very pleased with my acquisition of this fine vehicle.

Just sayin'.

I wish I could get as good gas mileage on either of my Miata's as I do on my 03 Infiniti.

I drive mostly city averaging 20 and the best ive got it 25 all highway. That tank I did 444 miles. I have an app (aCar) where I record my mileage but ive noticed I get different results from what the onboard computer tells me. Would you know how many miles/kms you did on the tank where you averaged 30 or so mpg?

Wow -- that is amazing.

And all this time I thought *I* did something special to get 21 city out of my i30 when the previous owner only got about 17.

Mileage increase

My 99 i30 routinely jumps mileage when I use non ethanol gasoline, whether premium or mid grade. Cost benefit doesn't always equal the result though!

Nice MPG! My computer read out says 24.6 at the moment with mixed driving which I think is pretty decent. That is with 93 octane from shell.
