Stereo Issues

Bought this I35 a month or two ago, radio works intermittently. CD or radio, volume will just cut out or it will be all "static" like. I took a video so you guys can hear whats going on with it. I already removed the stereo to check for any loose connections behind it but i'm not much of a stereo expert. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

It's probably the ts305k diode in combination with the x541 FET cutting out when the voltage exceeds the nominal 6.6 at the collector in combination with the 40uf cap underperforming due to the 3000k resistor heating up beyond specification.

translation: The head unit is dying like all 10+ year old Bose units do.

Replace it with a something other than Bose and get all the nice new features like aux input, bluetooth, USB, etc, etc, etc.

I know. I loved it. I wanted to respond in kind, but I knew that I couldn't one-up you on that. And it sounded so good that I'm positive that it applies to the Bose.

So unable to meet the challenge, I opted to break the reality of Bose to the op.

I know you did. Just stating it for the record, for anyone who might come along thinking I was serious

Are there any aftermarket head unit options. I'd love to put something different in as my CD cuts out intermittently but the radio is a special shape. do they have an adapter kit?.

You have lots of choices in replacement radios. The industry standard aftermarket double din radio is smaller than the custom sized Bose. But adapters are readily available. The one most commonly used is the Metra brand.

you can even get a single din radio and the adapter kit will give you a compartment below the radio to store things in.

Besides the adapter, you will need a wire harness adapter, an antenna adapter and a signal level adapter. You can get a fairly decent radio and all the adapters for $150 or so. Mostly depends on the radio you get.
