1998 Max SE-bad motor, $400

Blown motor. Good body (black), glass, 5-spd tranny, AC, electronics, decent interior, leather seats. Radiator is bad and front left CV shaft should be replaced, there is small wowee on back right quarter panel. 272,000+ miles. If no one wants it, going to wrecking yard. 160 miles east of Portland, Or. on main freeway.

This is a phenomenal deal. If I were in the Pacific NW I would grab this in a heartbeat.

would you be interested in parting it out? I would like to get some parts from it before/if you have to sent it to the junk yard. I live in OR myself.

I don't really care to part it out because I have enough other things on my plate that I don't want to spend the time on it. I'll respond to each person in the order that they have contacted me. If it is too much money for the first two to get it to the east coast I will let you know and we will see what we can work out.

Please tell us about the "bad motor". define bad. does it run at all? did the bad radiator cause a blown head gasket? Can it drive to Portland?

Motor doesn't run at all. Will turn over but doesn't offer to kick or fire even the littlest bit. Radiator developed leak and motor got hot enough that it quit.
After it cooled enough to pop radiator cap there was no water in it at all. I haven't tried a compression check because the way the motor spins it doesn't sound like it has any compression. I haven't pulled it apart for the same reason, and I don't have the time or money to rebuild or replace the motor.........so it is going down the road, one way or the other.

Were you the last to drive it? You should know if it overheated or not...

Yes this definitely a good deal, as I wanted it myself but it's too much of a trip from D.C. and back...Wish I can find one like this between here and N.C.

man, 400 only? give me 700 i will have a 3.5 in this car running strong. this is actually one of the better deals i have seen in a while. i sold a 4th gen for $800 in non running condition, it looked like complete sh*t compared to this.

ill give you 500 asap. this is just what i been looking for to start my 4th gen project. i am not sure if i can wait 2 to 3 weeks for an answer. I am local and cash in hand. i admire your loyalty, but my offer is here for the next week. i am still looking for a good 4th gen anywhere within 1000 miles. i had a 4th gen 15 years ago and i still regret parting ways with it.

I don't think anybody is criticizing your decision in terms of honoring your promise to hold it. Of course that is absolutely admirable.

I think the second-guessing is in terms of you agreeing to hold it in the first place. Of course your prerogative either way, and good luck with it. I still can't believe this sucker wasn't instantly sold though. If it were in DFW I would have bought it long ago.

Hard to believe that that beautifully kept 4th gen has a blown motor. That's a Shakespeare tragedy right there.

This other guy hasn't gotten back to me, so whenever you are ready, come and get it. It is in need of another wash and wax though because of all the dust and some rain that we have had.
