the only other ones are 1+ hour drive and they're all 1/8 mile. no point, IMO.
And if you're planning to drive in from florida to come to this, the difference between a $30 night and a $100 day of track time isn't going to make much difference.
eat at Subway instead of Olive Garden while you're there and it's paid for.

Just out of curiosity, will my stock brakes be able to cut it on a road course (with decent fluid though)? That's the only thing, aside from the price, that has me really concerned about going to the track. I don't want to have to do a brake job 1000+ miles from home.

As long as you've got good pads, you should be fine. If you do cook the pads or fluid, I always bring enough tools and stuff to do a brake job at the track. I'll be able to loan you the stuff necessary. If I'm not busy running things, then I'll be glad to help if needed.

Auto X is also out. There are no SCCA sanctioned events that weekend, and no BMW/Porsche club events either.

I've asked the local groups about hosting something that weekend, and they're not interested- costs would be upwards of $100 per car as well because of the insurance, lot rental, and equipment rental fees. At that price, might as well go to a real track!

There are a couple 1/8 mile tracks that are open during the weekend planned. it's only 1/8 mile, but it's the best we can do unless I move the event to Houston.
I also have a dyno reserved on Sat evening from 6-10pm.

Everyone who's interested in the road course event, look here:

I dont think an 1/8 mile track would be as fun but i've never ran on an 1/8 mile so we'll see. I'm down to try it out. Although the track in Houston sounds very inviting !!!

that's your only option if you want drag racing. the only 1/4 track within 4 hour drive is closed that weekend.

maximum810, I tried to work out MSR.. That was the place I was initially trying to get. Not happening. There's a PCA event that weekend, and most of their instructors will be attending that. Besides, TWS is much more fun. MUCH higher speed track and it's easier on right side tires. MSR is very hard on tires due to all the off-camber, left hand turns...

nonetheless, I'm doing my best to make TWS happen and I need people to step up for it to go through as well.

Jay, there's several hotels in the area.. the one that we will likely use for our track day will be the Manor House Inn in college Station. they are a huge supporter of the track and give discounts for it.

for the hotel in Dallas, I'm still working out details on everything.
