Last Minute Mods - What do you still need to do to your car this week?
It's almost here!
I'm curious, though - how many of you still have major projects that you're planning to have done by Maxus, but you're still working on this week? Or has everyone been ready to rock and roll since memorial day weekend, and is just going to rinse off their Maxima and hit the road?
Last year, I finished my quad retrofit at 11pm on Friday night, then left before 5AM saturday to drive all the way down past DC for Maxus 09. I had to rush at the end, and although the retrofit was done, I had a bunch of cosmetic things I had to rush, and re-did the week after Maxus.
This year (surprise surprise) I'm in almost the same boat. I sold my quad retrofit about 3 months ago, and my new one is under construction, but I'm really going to have to go ***** out to finish everything up this weekend. I'm staying tight-lipped about what is going in the new retrofit, except that nobody has even tried doing it before.
Otherwise, I need to refinish my wheels (halfway done - the paint on the lips was chipping - not from curb rash, but the paint didn't adhere well to the brushed metal finish of the 00 GXE 16" 9-spoke wheels I have, so I am repainting), I need to give it a good wax (luckily it has only been a week since the last clay bar, so I won't need to do that, just wash and wax). I need to clean the engine bay, probably just run some degreaser on it and then polish up the valve covers and UIM with some fine grit sandpaper or a wire brush.
What did you guys have that you wanted to get done before Maxus, but didn't? I wanted to replace the rear valve cover gasket, but that ain't happening this week. I wanted to buy two new tires. I wanted to set up a little laptop stand in the car, since I have an inverter, a laptop, and a USB GPS with nowhere to put it. That might happen, but it will be a night before kind of project if it does.
What have you done to get ready for Maxus?
What do you still need to do in the next seven days before Maxus?
What projects did you have to postpone until later in the year?

I wasn't able to do much to my car because my job sucks but that's another story haha. All I got left to do is give the outside a good wash add another layer of natty's red and reseal the wheels with the klasse twins.
#5
Install my new non foggy headlight, and install the roof wing that my auto body shop threw out when they replaced my roof after the accident.
#6
I wanted a new set of coilovers but I will just wait
#7
I still need to locate a pearl white hood and tan leather drivers seat. Then paint my wiper blade arms, install my 5.5gen calipers and rotors and new control arm bushings
oh yeah and turn up the boost

To Do: NWP Spacers, NGK Iridium Plugs, Rear valve-cover gasket, swap in my ssim'ed + ported UIM/LIM and NWP Vias Block Plate, change oil, drain & fill tranny fluid, Cattman Y-pipe (dunno though bc time is scarce and those bolts are a bish) and if I remember my Ralco UDP too but for some reason it keeps slipping my mind, lol.
Done: Lowered w/ Sprints 2"F/R and Cattman 3" catback
I am not gonna do anything cosmetic except for wash and vacuum her, she's beat up and needs some serious body work....sigh...maybe next summer.

productive weekend.
washing and waxing are done. Wheels are done (the damn masking tape left a ton of residue on them, I'm kinda pissed). Got a sanding sponge and hit the UIM, FVC, and timing cover. It's still dirty and old, but it's slightly better.
Test-fitted the retrofit, and there is clearance, after a little bit of hammering. I don't think I'll be able to do everything I wanted, but it will be enough.

I fat-fingered a can of tire black from a high shelf, and promptly dented/dinged the door arch. So in prep for Maxus, I have damaged my car.
Sad. And true. But I'm just parking my car and wandering around anyway. Doubtful anyone would be interested in a stock-looking exterior with common power bolt-ons.
However, I get what you're saying about prep and excitement. Hope the thunderstorms are "isolated" elsewhere.

I'll get a good wash and spray detail (helps with bug removal later)
I'm also going to try to keep my gas tank fairly empty which should help a tiny amount on the track. hahha, not really, a stock-car with a very inexperienced track driver isn't going to win much anyway
