So I think I found the cleanest I30 left on the planet
Friend is a dealer who took it in on trade, these are the pics he sent me and I purchased it sight unseen. 70 yr old man traded in his wife's car, garage kept, 51k! 1998 I30 Black on Black. I paid more than I wanted but couldnt pass it up after losing my 96 last year. Tell me what y'all think? I'll post some better pics when I get it (I'm in Fl, he's driving it down from Oh) but judging from the headlights and shape of the wheels, it looks incredible. Seriously may be one of the nicest ones left...and its mine!

Is it worth it?
1. It's a beautiful well kept, and young (only 50 some odd thousand miles) 4th gen.
2. It's a 98 model, IMO the best 4th gen. It's the most modern 4th gen without the NATs, emissions updates of the 99 Cali models.
3. 4th gens are very well known for their reliabity. This example has 50k miles. With regular maintenance you will easily see up to 400k or more miles on that same engine and body.
Nuff said.

Thanks for the input. I ended up paying 5 out the door with tint, service (a/c charge, oil change etc) and delivery to FL from OH. Still bugged me that is was waay over blue book. But we all know the real value of a specimen like this. I just needed reassured!

For what it's worth, it's really hard to place a price tag on something so rare.
As a collector's item, you might call it priceless as you're unlikely to find such a specimen in better shape.
As a car that you're going to drive however, the pristine condition may not last long. That said, at 148k miles I've just had to spend $1300 on a paint job, $700 for new front end suspension and steering, did my valve cover gaskets myself (mech will prob charge you like $300), and around $300 on some KYB shocks... and I'm going to need tires soon (~$400). You're not going to have to spend any of that for awhile. Add that on top of what I can expect to pay for a 1999 i30 with 148k miles, and I think you've probably overpaid by a couple hundred bucks - probably not over a grand.
