Can 225/50/17 tires go on 235 rims?
Looking to buy a guys 225/50/17 tires, but discovered that the AE 5th gen 2001 max rims are 235(50/17).
My understanding is that 225 tires will be 10 mm too small for the rims?
Anyone know if this is this safe/ acceptable or just a mismatch.
Thanks!

first of all it's a 7" rim (iirc) not a 235, and yes you can i f you want. speedo might be a bit a little off and you'll have less contact area but you can do it. no problem. i've got a 215 on an 8.5.

Stock SE/GLE rims are 17x7. Ideally 225 is as wide as you will want to go on a 7", but you can run a 235. The handling will not be as precise as a 225, but it will work.
Hell if you think a 235 on a 7" is bad, a guy came into my work with his 03 G35 Aero with 255/40/17's on the stock rims..and they are 17x7 (5 spoke aero wheels).
