Which Wheel's at the Track???
Should I take my 17in Konig Monsoon's or 15in Stock Wheels????
Monsoon's have Yokohama's == better grip, heavier Stock's have cheap Michelin's == a lot lighter, tires somewhat newer then Yoko's Which's ones are better for a good E/T time? Thanks for the input... |
Your grippier setup with the 17's may give you a better launch, beyond that they'll just be holding you back all the way down the track. Your best ET/mph will probably come with your 15" stockers.

hmmm...what if you run 15's in the front and 17's rear?

Wouldn't it be better if I had the 17's in the front and the 15's in the back so I could take off some weight but get a good launch...

On my 97 GXE, I had 17X8 Konig Monsoons on them.
I ran a 14.78 with them, and without ANY other changes, ran a 14.55 with the 15" steel GXE wheels in front, Monsoons in back. Go with the steelies. |
cool, thanks

The weight on the rear wheels won't amount for much. They are just following the rest of the car. The amount of force needed to spin the front wheels and pull the car down the track is affected by the weight of the 17's. |
Actually your best bet is to run steelies all around if you can. Rotating mass (wheels, drivetrain, etc) has a 3:1 ratio to dead weight. Ex, you cut 10lbs in your wheel combo is the same as losing 30lbs of weight in the car (spare tire, jack, etc).
Get a set of DR's or slicks to put of the steelies up front, and run the steelies in the back with street tires at 40 psi. Doug D |
