why can't i lower 60' ??

just got back from the track today.
i have 99 auto.

mods: 17x7 Racing hart M5 with toyo proxes fz4 or something like that, h&r + agx

time:

.773
2.426
6.705
10.199
70.77
13.208
15.774
87.37

i also had another run but it was slower. i had a 2.5 60' and a similar trap

my question is, how can i lower 60'? is it my tires? or rims?
also, if i can lower my 60' to maybe 2.2 what should my time be? trap speed?

sorry for newb questions..this is only my 2nd time at the track

Nam, what rpm did you launch at? Did you lower your front tire pressure? I say you can get mid 15s if you get your 60' down.

MaximaPower Jul 8, 2003 07:34 PM

hey mike,

man i always get nervous when i'm at the light, so i 4got to look at my rpm...but i did power brake, or watever it's called, i think at around 1200rpm..i'm not very sure tho
i know that i didn't peel out at all, but i didn't give it much gas at launch...i kinda eased into it

and my front tires were at 37 psi...prolly the same with the rear tires

i'm pretty happy with that time and trap, but i dont get the 60'

MaximaPower Jul 8, 2003 07:42 PM

4got to mention, i had everything in the car(jack, spare...) with a couple of extra tools in the trunk which prolly only weighs about 5-6lbs and i was running on a near empty tank of gas, but the light wasn't on yet

MaximaPower Jul 8, 2003 08:40 PM

my 2nd run i did drop my front tire pressure, but to 25psi and i had a bad launch...i peeled out a bit too

what's torque brake? i thought that's when u hold the brake pedal down while u rev up a bit

i also didn't have the tree to time my launch..it was just green then go

Cumalot Jul 8, 2003 09:34 PM

Don't focus on the lights too much, concentrate on your launch. R/T doesn't factor into the 1/4 time, so it's not important. If you're bracket racing, then R/T is important. So, just concentrate on your launch.

I did good when I had the SC when I dropped the front tire pressure to 25psi. If you peeled out too much, try around 30psi. When I was N/A, I just left it at where I had it on the street, at about 32-34psi. You got to play around with it a bit to find out which is best for your car. Same goes for the brake torque. I did best when I launch it at 1800rpms. Try different rpms(1500, 1800, 2000)to see which is best for your car. You still have the Dragon/WeaponR intake right as your only power mod? And since you have it with you, install the ypipe that I gave you. It should give you a good gain. With that, I guarantee you will hit mid 15s. Maybe even low 15s. And take out all that crap that are in your car. The lighter, the better.

MaximaPower Jul 10, 2003 09:20 PM

hmmm..i actually took that monsterflow intake out..my car feels better on the low end, but alot less aggressive up top...so i ran pretty much stock...and the track i went to didn't have the tree light, it was just the 2 yellow lights when u line up, then green...kinda hard to judge..but it's ok since RT doesn't count.

i think next time i'll try to set the tire pressure at around 30-32psi...i kinda peeled out a bit when i had the pressure at 25psi...i think i'll try to launch at 1800rpms, but seems like the car peels out when launched at that high rpm..i guess i need more practice

as far as im concerned, and from what ive read that is a very respectable time

Cumalot Jul 11, 2003 11:14 AM

Nam, since you are stock now, the time isn't that bad. Very respectable like the other guy said. I think if you didn't run with the heavy 17s, you would probably get an even better time.

Lower tire pressure means better traction. Who ever said "lower" it to 32psi is stupid.

what do u suggest?

No need to drop tire pressure if you're not spinning the tires. Maybe you're stupid if you lower the psi even if you don't have traction problems.

Your right, I did not realize he was not spinning his tires.

You say your not getting on the throttle very hard at launch. I would lower the tire pressure to less than 30 and give it more gas. See how that goes, then try lowering the psi to the low 20's and give it even more gas. Find the right psi and throttle combination.

I had to go as low as 19 psi to pull a low 2.2, and that is not even a very good 60'.

well i ve gone 2.0 on many occasions with a very similar car...tires make a world of difference...toyo T1S and i do go as low as 15 when nessecary...you need to minimize rear end squat i.e. everything out of the trunk...move your seat foward very low on gas...and ive found power breaking to be in effective i keep my left foot on the break and my right above the gas when i launch i definetly dont just floor ir but...there's a rythem you must find on how much is too much...practice on the street...leave lights hard but dont spin ...p.s. you'll win more races that way too...he who spins looses
