How bad will 19's slow me down on the track

Here's my dilema, my 19s weight about 48-50 lbs with tires.

But from what i hear my 17" g35 rims and tires weight just as much......

I wanna run my 19s because ill get good traction with my new 235's.

And my 17" g35 rims have some crappy pep boys all season tires and i cant get traction at all.

i dont have the stock 16's any more

what should i do guys?

How much will the 19's really slow me down?

The diameter of the rim and tire it self is the same as stock by the way.

NmexMAX Oct 12, 2005 10:23 AM

Everything you said will be :bill: by rotational mass being greater w/ the 19" wheel.

Not sure exactly how much slower, but you can count on it being notceably slower ...

cardana24 Oct 12, 2005 12:06 PM

don't know an exact ammount but it will be a lot slower....I notice a huge difference from my steelies to my 19s.

VIP Maxima Oct 12, 2005 01:02 PM

abour .3-.5 down the 1/4........

i mostly feel the difference from stop and go, during a roll its just as fast as before !

maxspeed96CT Oct 12, 2005 10:16 PM

wow .5 :(

but im just worried i wont get any traction with my all seasons and the 17" g35 rims aren't light either.......

So honesty guys, which one would you pick

silvermax2k2 Oct 13, 2005 05:35 AM

i really did not notice much, if at all of a diffrence when I put the 19s on my car. my car is still fast as hell, still can rip all of first, part/half of second, and sometimes a chirp in third. but it has been a while, maybe when i put my 16's back on for the winter i will notace something? :gotme:

I30tMikeD Oct 13, 2005 06:05 AM

They will hurt you alot. A 50lbs wheel tire combo is alot of weight.

C MAX Oct 13, 2005 06:27 AM

forget about it your not winning any races with that set up. when i went from a 18 to a 16 at the track there was a huge difference in the 1/4 time.
if you had lots of hp maybe you wouldnt notice as much.

sean05 Oct 13, 2005 08:44 AM

i defiently noticed a difference when i went from my 18s back to the sawblades in the winter. defiently more punch off the line. if your doing be using them on the street and not a hardcore racer then it wouldnt matter. if your going to the track put back on the 16s.

maxspeed96CT Oct 13, 2005 09:01 AM

ya i wish i never sold my stock 16's now

Only other setup i have is g35 17's and those weight 50lbs to :bawling:

might have to barrow a set of rims or take the steelies off my moms quest lol

Ceasars Chariot Oct 14, 2005 12:50 PM

imagine stopping by uhaul on your way to the track and renting a uhaul trailer. then dropping by walmart and buying up a bunch of party supplies like a tent, some ice chests, bbq grille, clothes, retro looking jam box, batteries, and tons of other things.

then you hit the drag strip towing this trailer full of goodies down the strip. all that extra weight just making it tough on the vq. sure you can have fun, and burn it up making passes with these wheels, but they will hurt.

i would just run with them and have a good time, but if you had a way to put something lighter and smaller on the max, i would do that if it wasnt much trouble.

have a good one !

TAPOUT Oct 14, 2005 08:28 PM

I ran a 14.5 with my 18's (Nitto 555), and a 13.7 same day on 15" slicks.

VIP Maxima Oct 14, 2005 08:37 PM

why buy 19's in first place if u go to tracks and care about performance ?

cant comlain tho

tavarish Oct 15, 2005 08:13 AM

sawblades > all others

jk...still the lightest stock wheel/tire combo.

I'd get some rx-7 rims or millenia rims.

i think the rx7 wheels would look pritty good on a max to, thats one set of stock wheels i realy like.

maxmale Oct 18, 2005 08:12 AM

i just weighted one of my wheels with brand new tires and came up right at 40lbs is this a decent weight?

NmexMAX Oct 18, 2005 11:30 AM

Everything you said will be by rotational mass being greater w/ the 19" wheel.
Doesn't anyone ever listen/read .. :rotz:

Weight isn't as important as ^^^ And weight amplifies itself with ^^^ So a 17" wheel weighing as much as a 19" wheel aren't the same comparison because of ^^^

Glude Oct 18, 2005 02:59 PM

Maxmale, its a really good weight for 19s with tires. I know those centerlines are extremely light for their size. What tires are you running?

NmexMAX Oct 18, 2005 03:03 PM

:sprint: My 17's weigh about as much ... but rotational mass > j00

maxmale Oct 19, 2005 12:02 PM

there nitto 555's im getting ready to go with toyo t1r's though the traction sucks from those nitto's as in i cant get traction in first gear at all and 3/4 of second.

maxspeed96CT Oct 19, 2005 09:01 PM

but wont rotaional mass be the same if the 19s are the equal hight to my 17s with tires?

Glude Oct 19, 2005 10:31 PM

I want those t1r's too but I dunno if I cant afford them. Werent you running a smaller size tire than OEM? Im actually thinking of going a lil wider with 255/40/19s. Still unsure if im gonna buy ebay tires or spend the cash on some new tires.

steven88 Oct 20, 2005 01:19 AM

maxmale u have 19 inch rims with tires that weigh 40lbs? wow impressive...

my combo weighs 42lbs except they are in 18 inch size....i can prob squeeze them down to 38-39lbs if I had some lightweight toyo tires...thats probably one of the best weights u can get for an 18 inch rim...around 38-39lbs with tires...

Yeah, that is awesome for 19s.

My Centerline 17s weighed 14 lbs each, 36 lbs with tires. Running them was a few tenths faster than with my stock 15s, which were about 42 lbs with tires.

Damn, I miss those. I ruined them on some steel construction plates, so now I have some heavy azz cheapo 17s. Actually, the rims held up very well, since I hammered those plates and the rims were still holding air. I would highly recommend them and I would definitely buy another set if I could afford it.

maxspeed96CT Oct 21, 2005 06:30 PM

k guys i have access to some 15" steelies :gapteeth: ....

but they have crapy tires (215/ all seasons) should i still run them or will i get a real ****ty take off?

would it be ok to leave the 19s in the back?

or do i have to change all 4?

cause yes after doin the research the 19s will slow me down alot...

steven88 Oct 21, 2005 06:45 PM

19s on the rear should be okay....even if they are outrageously heavy, it won't slow u down that much....cuz the rear wheels are just dead weight (being pulled along)....

You can still pull a good 60' time with crappy tires. Street tires are pretty much all the same once you get on the drag strip in my experience.

TAPOUT Nov 5, 2005 02:48 PM

Get a set of Drag Radials for the 15's, and just use them at the track.

maxspeed96CT Nov 5, 2005 03:09 PM

k 19's are off, ill be running with my g35 17's, and maybe steelies if i barrow some...

wish me luck , englishtown nov 13th

joebangaa Nov 6, 2005 09:07 AM

aznsap Nov 11, 2005 10:04 PM

hey guys, i have a set of 17" kosei k1's that weight 16.7 lbs (according to some website). would you guys run these or stock rims @ the 1/4 mile track?

i've weighed them a long time ago and i think the rim/tire combo of my stock gle 15" were almost the same as my 17" rim/tire combo (i have sumitomo htr+'s, i think about 26lbs each tire)

maxspeed96CT Nov 14, 2005 08:31 PM

ran some ****ty times, only 1sec faster than stock, my 60fts were 2.6 or worse :nupe500: , couldnt get traction if my life depended on it.... even tired sliping it but then i bogged

was a fun day tho, got runner up in my class using my boys 3.5 altima (ran 14.1 with basic bolt ons)
