First time-15.3@90.5 00vi'd 4g

Finally got out to the track, too bad it was a horrible day to race, but whatever. Weather was hot and VERY humid. My setup right now is: 00vi, very rough vafc tune, y pipe, udp, K&N cone, no a/c, ksports. I used sawblades with completely horrible 205/65/15 tires, i was chirping third all night! Also have a decent sized exhaust leak after the y pipe. Track prep seemed to be....not so good. Rubber all over the start lane. This was at Edgewater in Cincinnati, OH.

My first run was 15.5, followed by 15.4, and most other runs were 15.4@90. Best trap was 91. Here is my best time, i'm copying directly from the slip.

r/t-.425
60-2.356
330-6.486
1/8-9.900
mph-71.34
1000-12.829
1/4-15.320
mph-90.84

One time i dropped it at redline, and got 2.6 60' and 15.6. Worst run of the night.

What do you guys think? I think i mainly need the driver mod to help my times. I'm not putting any more money into the car, so more real mods is out of the question. :repost2:

All cars seemed to be running quite slow tonight....new GXP Grand Prix(v8) was running consistent 15.3, and a modded EVO 8 was running mid 14's all night. New mustang gt manual was running high 14s, and some other cars were running much slower than they should of been.

Edit: Also, with almost 3/4th tank of gas, the car weighed in at 2900. I have 50+lbs of SFC/custom RSB equipment as well.

get everything fixed with the car :

get a good tune on the apexi

get a good set of tires

and get the exhaust leak fixed

after that work on your r/t and launch

and you'll break 14's for sure.

Any more comments/suggestions/anything??

DandyMax Jun 10, 2007 08:38 AM

For a 5-spd with 00VI/y-pipe etc, that trap is way low, even for hot weather, which suggests you are down on power. Even for a 2.3 sixty foot you should be in the 14's. Stock 5-spd average is 15.0 - 15.2.

Try again in better weather, but check/get fixed any problems as mentioned first. Check for a KS ghost code, maybe compression too. You've got a power loss somewhere I think.

You know i've been thinking that i'm loosing a decent amount of power somewhere ever since i got the 00vi, but never found anything in the manifold. Only thing is i hear a little whisle from there at around quarter throttle, but don't see any vacuum leaks.

I'll check for codes, fix exhaust leak, and re-check the manifold. Thanks.

I agree w/Dandymax, and would also suggest verifying you VIAS is working correctly and that the rod is actually turning. You should be noticing a very definite change in power from 6-6.5k as compared to USIM, as in, it just keeps pulling. If the vias isnt working it will be nearly the same as the USIM (maybe a little worse up top). My traps went from 91.5 mph (USIM) to 96.1 mph (00vi) and i didnt even do an SAFC tune yet... my ET was not spectacular at 14.7, but that was more of a launch/driving thing.

The whistle could very well be a vacuum leak, check thoroughly. On the other hand mine/most whistle a little sometimes.

:squintdan that's exactly where i feel power drops off......pulls hard up to 6k, then doesn't pull nearly as hard......:bawling:

My vias cup is welded in place, so i know that's working....only thing i didn't do was put that spring inside the cup, but i didn't think that mattered

jmeister Jun 10, 2007 10:38 AM

Edgewater still extremely busy on T&T nite? I'd like to get up there one weekend this summer and run mine.
You should def be in the high 14's with that setup & 60'

best mod ever getting your car fixed :jump:

I have run 2.0 to 2.1 60fts with the same tires, maybe lower your tire psi I run mine at 15-18psi

and like dandymax said check for a ks code

spray some starter fuild around the manifold gasket you can check for leaks this way or some tolet paper and hold it near the gasket and rev the engine to see if it sucks the paper

If it didn't matter, why would it be there in the first place? :grinno:

I'm not sure what to suggest there, possibly take the VIAS off again, see if you can get the JB weld out somehow, and put the spring back in with fresh JB weld. Problem is now the spring won't sit correctly with dry, hard JB weld in place in the cup, so you'd have to find a way to get it out.

I'd put that spring back in... without it in there the PV has enough room to potentially move laterally up to maybe 3/8", which if it did would bring the journal out into the airflow path. It would introduce a sharp turbulent surface as well as blocking some of the flow area. How much this would affect things in terms of power loss, I don't know, but if it were me I'd want that spring in.

4x4Max Jun 10, 2007 06:22 PM

Ok i'll put that spring back in. I played around with JB weld and that crap didn't hold the cup, so i welded it in there with a mig welder. Only issue is that the PV is snug in the cup, doesn't really slide in/out without force, i don't think a little weak spring would help anything. I'll take everythign out and see if i can figure something out.

On another note.....i just checked my VIAS, and that SOB wasn't opening. VAFC activation wire was lose. Also got my ECU scanned, and got a KS code. No o2 codes, so it's not a 'fake' KS code.

I guess that 15.3@90 is with a broken KS and no VIAS with an exhaust leak on ****ty tires :gapteeth:

Thanks for the suggestions.

Ok well on a stock VIAS it definitely can slide, maybe not so much on yours with the welding etc.. but anyways, sounds like you found your issues. Fixing the VIAS and KS should gain you back a lot...

Oh hell yeah it helped a ton. I just fixed the VIAS and did a couple pulls, and the difference is crazy. I need to play with the setting because i can feel the boost in power, but the hard part is done. Also just ordered a KS, assuming the Ebay one is fine. Getting new gaskets to fix those exhaust leaks tomorrow. Tracking it in 2 or 3 more weeks probably. I feel sorry for my tranny!

Jmeister-it wasn't busy at all on friday, but that's probably because a ton of people got afraid of the possible rain. It did rain, but it was back up and runnign in less than an hour. I could make runs almost back to back. The free scale there is also nice to have access to.

Ceasars Chariot Jun 11, 2007 12:49 AM

sounds like you got everything sorted ! im sure you will hit the track again and reel in a 14 second run ! go get it !
