It's official - N/A 3L cracks 12's **video added**

Edit: for the video click here.

Set some new PB's yesterday at the track. The "little" old 3L went 12.83 @ 106.90 mph. On another pass it trapped 108.26 mph (on a 12.90 ET).

Scary thing is, there's a few tenths left in it yet. The car's only roughly tuned and I had a lot of problems with it breaking up at high rpms due to sudden lean-out. I'm lucky these are tolerant engines and I'm N/A or the motor would have blown. Thankfully I had the knock sensor working overtime. It was unexpected, the night before I wasn't seeing that as much doing some street tuning, thought it was safely rich so I need to look into it, might be a fuel pump/supply issue or it could be the stock ECU switching tables on me again (don't even ask how many problems the stupid Nissan ECU has caused me). Also, my launches and shifts were a bit rusty shall we say, not having raced in a year... that plus a shifter knob that's stripped and comes right off the shaft - so mostly pulling 1.8x sixty foots, worse than the mid 1.7's I'm used to. I think I'm going to change my launch technique a bit with this setup now too, it needs to be launched a bit higher than last year's.

Considering all the factors, I'm thinking this car should be able to do 12.6x and trap 109. I never had 1 solid pass all day yesterday. Even the 12.83 and 12.90 were glitchy. Others were worse; for example the car crapping out up top turned a half-decent start on a 1.79 sixty foot into a 13.05 @ 94.57, and on another run it turned a 1.88 sixty foot into a 13.19 @ 88.77. ( at the trap speed)

Anyhoo, timeslip is below, and I have video footage which I'm just editing together and will post soon.

Nope sorry, not yet, too many issues to sort out still. I'll get on the dyno to fine tune it/get some numbers once I have the car where I want it.

t6378tp Sep 30, 2007 11:34 AM

amazing times, makes you wonder why even bother with a 3.0

between yourself and nealoc187

Tatanko Sep 30, 2007 11:41 AM

That's absolutely nuts, Dandy. I hope to go that fast someday boosted, but you can do it NA and that's downright scary.

Maximahappy22 Sep 30, 2007 12:16 PM

What are your mods? Cuz the link in your sig doesn't work...

Nealoc187 Sep 30, 2007 12:16 PM

108+ mph wtF :lolrun:

Kevlo911 Sep 30, 2007 12:25 PM

How much does it weigh?

grey99max Sep 30, 2007 12:57 PM

Fantastic job, Dandy! And no wisecracks about how Canadian air is actually 20% nitrous. :p

Say, would you like a heads-up when PINKS does their next show for All-Out racing? You would really shake up Rich with a mid-12's 4-door Maxima! :D

Seriously - you have done a fantastic job on that new engine. Congrats.

98MaXeDouT Sep 30, 2007 01:44 PM

Holy good god man....serious times!

What size slicks you running?

speed racer Sep 30, 2007 02:29 PM

That's real good dandy. I knew you would break records. how much did the car weigh? What's your rev limit at?

JeEvE Sep 30, 2007 02:52 PM

NmexMAX Sep 30, 2007 02:55 PM

bigpulve+ Sep 30, 2007 03:08 PM

Holy Shi*........and to think I wanted to go boosted.......f that, I just want to see what this engine still has in it....

96blkonblkse Sep 30, 2007 04:44 PM

Wow man thats insane!!!! I have your twin car expect its over a second slower LOL. KT3 98 SE FTW!!! heh. way to represent for the VQ30, maybe people will think twice about just going to the 3.5

DandyMax Sep 30, 2007 04:47 PM

Added video link to the first post. ;)

ajcool2 Sep 30, 2007 05:11 PM

:king2:

3.0 FTMFW! Congrats indeed Dandy I just knew it was a matter of time before you would break 12's. One day one of my cars will be in the 12's.

markd248 Sep 30, 2007 05:14 PM

EDIT: please let me know if the video is showing up in the correct aspect ratio - it's supposed to be widescreen but I think I might have screwed up and ended up with it in 4:3 which will make everything look squished...

Yeah it looked squished. I loved the editing BTW. It definalty needs to be on youtube so everybody can see what are cars can do.

Shoot. Thought so. Thanks for letting me know. Alright I'll have to re-render it but I can't do it now, gotta go out but I'll leave the link up for now so people can watch it even if the car's squished... lol

I'll put the vid up on Streetfire and YouTube once I fix it.

Nealoc187 Sep 30, 2007 05:36 PM

the video is in 4:3, your car looks very tall.

lol @ the music in the video, sounds like you are in braveheart or something.

"FREEEEEDOMMMMMM!!!!!!"

MaximumPower01 Sep 30, 2007 05:49 PM

Great job, Dandy!

3.0's LIVE.....FTMFW!!

gtr_rider Sep 30, 2007 05:53 PM

VQrebuild96 Sep 30, 2007 06:24 PM

WOW............. This makes me want to keep my 3.0 what are your mods? I hear it going up to third gear u must be revving pretty high.

00SEMAX19 Sep 30, 2007 06:31 PM

Nice run! That car is a beast! deffinatel fix you mod list because the link is no good any more. It's great to see how much potential these cars really have

l3ftonm3 Sep 30, 2007 06:45 PM

awesome video, great presentation. Keep it up, definitely try to get that mod list up again, cant wait to see what else you can squeeze out of it.

VQrebuild96 Sep 30, 2007 07:51 PM

Could you imagine if was to slap on a turbo with a 100 shot nitrous? Im saying high 10s

michaelnyden Sep 30, 2007 09:09 PM

wow, dyno time...we to justify those times...lol
and estimate weight if possible...you keep pushing the boundaries dandy, just when everyone probably though a 3.0L N/A would never break into 12's...it's amazing we can run such good times for a FF car with not that much power to be honest compared to many other cars around the same weight that run low 13's and never faster with a whole lot more power...ie. evo's and sti's (no traction excuses there)...so I guess how and when the power is made is crucial...

we need some inside video one of these days to hear what it sound like in cabin...!

DandyMax Sep 30, 2007 09:40 PM

OK I fixed the video I think... same link up top in the first post but different file.

To all who asked about a mod list, it's been updated in my sig.

Same as last year, actually a little heavier, I left the rear seats in this time. Check the timeslip database.

Once I have it tuned up properly, 8200 most likely.

Freedom from 13's - hah. So you liked the music or you didn't?

I've thought of it, just haven't had time to rig up some kind of mount system, but I plan on doing it at some point. I think I'm also going to try some new angles from behind the starting line looking down the track from a tower view etc.

michaelnyden Sep 30, 2007 10:02 PM

if you still have the passenger seat in the car, I use this:
http://www.soloperformance.com/Shopp...0/Default.aspx
works with all cameras and is very adjustable and steady...!

I usually take the passenger seat out but it wouldn't take much to rig up a mount/bracket using the vacant bolt holes, or something off the rear deck... I'll get around to it eventually, would be cool to have an in-car video. It's really loud in there with the cutout open though.. lol

michaelnyden Sep 30, 2007 10:30 PM

yes I know:) ever tried going through a tunnel with your windows down with your cutout open? I did once...worst decision ever...My ears were pissed at me for a week!

DandyMax Sep 30, 2007 10:49 PM

Ok mods list in the sig is now updated.

Also, can anyone confirm the video is not squished anymore?

prince_starbai Sep 30, 2007 10:58 PM

Dandy congrats man..that's ridiculous.. 12's NA... Makes me wanna mod my car even more now =P

Nealoc187 Sep 30, 2007 11:00 PM

the vid is the proper aspect ratio now. also I liked the music, sounded very epic which is fitting because it's an epic milestone.

btw did you have a problem on the 1-2 shift? it sounded slower than normal.

DandyMax Sep 30, 2007 11:09 PM

Cool, thanks. Wasn't sure which way you meant it... but yeah, the music was chosen exactly for that reason.

It was slower. lol. I was just rusty and going on 2 consecutive nights with 4 hrs sleep - that plus a floating/unattached shifter knob. As I said above, it'll go faster yet for a number of reasons. :)

SPiG Sep 30, 2007 11:14 PM

It is still stretched to 4:3 for me. :gotme:

Great runs. Congrats on the new PB.

Nealoc187 Sep 30, 2007 11:16 PM

oh i see, yeah it definitely has more in it. i didn't want to say it before you confirmed, but that shift sounded pretty brutal, I bet you're giving up almost a tenth right there. i know when I shift 1-2, you cant even tell that I've shifted except for the wheelspin and change in engine tone, I suspect yours are the same way normally.
